I have for the past several years... the only way to get your federal return filed electronically is through purchasing TurboTax or TaxCut. They take the filing fee directly from your refund, if you don't owe the 'Tax Gestapo' money If you meet certain income levels based on family size and gross income, you may be able to file for free.

Some state taxing authorities are also allowing online filing of their tax returns directly from their website -- they've contracted with Quicken to do this. To encourage online filing they have been offering this service for free.

Hope this helps.

(my accountant does the actual filing, so i don't know exactly how to go about it...)

I have done it over the phone the past few years and it's been so easy...

It may be harder this year since I make more money, am not a student, etc...

I hate taxes.

If you want to file electronically AND make less than $27,000 you can file through a website called Tax Freedom. It's very easy to use and I used it last year with no problem. If you meet the requirements you can file electronically for free. Also, in the Delta Sigma Theta forum, there are also other tips posted for tax filing.
