Any one running for E-board???
Hey!!
I'm just wondering if any of you are running for E-board?? We have Elections in March, but we have nominations the first weeek in Feb. So i know all the chapter is thinking about what positions to run for! Right now i am MRC and social chair. I have been Philantrophy chair and alum relations in The Past, allong with Panhel/greek council delegate. I Also Served on Greek Council E-board (i was VP) for 1 1/2 years ( i had to drop my last semster cause a class during the new time) I am thinking about Running for Prez or VP. I'm nervous!! Does anyone have advice?? Also, if youu are running for anything what is it? I get soo excited about this stuff!!

Hey again Binks,
I loved being MOC (now SDC) it was a lot of fun and a great way to make sure you really get to know all of the new sisters coming in.
Archon was fun too but a lot more work. One warning about being Archon, you get "blamed" for everything. You have to be the one along with the Advisor who may have to crack down on the chapter if they're not holding up their end as a whole if that makes sense. For instance, during my term as Archon we didn't do well with recruiting (it was our first time recruiting as a chapter). I used to remind the sisters and our MRC that we were going to be on probation with CO. Everyone was just like you're being hard on us, you're being a worrywart, etc. Well this year we're on an Action Plan to reach total and quota (we're gonna make it too I'm positive). Also, when there was some dissension in the chapter (hey get 30 women together and there will be some) when the MAL and Jboard stepped in the Archon was still blamed for making the MAL enforce rules, etc. It could just be our chapter but from what I've read other Archons have experienced the same thing and other presidents of GLO have too. By the time my term as Archon was over last Spring I know there were sisters who weren't too happy with me. Now that I'm off eboard and only on e-council things have smoothed over so much but the Archon now is going through the same things I did last year. I've told her that it just is part of the job. And there are lots of rewards to being Archon too that are obvious so I would encourage you to run.
As for Vice Archon, that was the one position I didn't want to run for since it seemed to be the one that would take up most of my time. As a grad student time is precious for me so at the time I decided on running for Archon instead. I do know that our Vice Archon, Yesenia, is loving it and wouldnt change it for the world.
Good luck and keep us informed of what you're running for.
Carolyn

Our Chapter is in an unique position. We went form 8 women to 20 in one semsters and many of the girls are afraid of being big! They dont' understand that Yes it is good to be close to your sisters, but I do not think the sisters understnad that as a bigger Chapter we run into different Problems. I can from ECu where i was in a non-NPC sorority that had 100 girls, so i understand the problems the sorority will face with growth. I work very close to our Archon this year cause i am MRC and that was the BIG position Cause We had to get our goal or our chapter was goign to serious think about folding!! BUT WE GOT IT AND WE ARE GOOD TO GO!!! I have been talking to my advisor and to our current Archon about the position and things that will help me if i do the position. I just hope the e-board/e-copuncil will have the same chemistery like this year. We have even had our DCP and RCp tell us this is the Best Gropup they have seen
I gotta go

I REALLY REALLY wish I could run for MRC next semester... but alas I will be graduating in may and be alum for next semester... VERY SAD.... I REALLY REALLY want that position... but I know my little sis is running for scribe which is my position right now.. (well actually I'm scribune... because we didn't have enough eligible girls to fill E borad so I do both positions jobs.. which actually isn't that bad.) but I"m glad my lil sis will probably be taking it over she'll do great !!

Hey Binks,
Good job as MRC and congratulations to the chapter for doing such a great job recruiting women this past year. I hope that your sisters will get over their fear of growing even larger. We went from 21 sisters up to 32 this Fall and I think we have grown even stronger and closer with the newer sisters added. They have brought so much to the chapter. Plus I just think about all the fantastic friends I would miss out on if we didn't grow larger. I have met and become friends with so many women I never would have without Phi Sig.
Sounds like you know what the downsides of the Archons position are and you definitely know what the pluses to it are. I strongly encourage you to run for it. I am so glad that I was Archon last year when it wasn't even a position I had seriously wanted to consider before I was nominated (I was all about running for MAL at the time). When I got nominated for Archon I thought about declining but thought the heck with it I'll never get it so might as well leave my name up there - imagine my surprise when it was announced that I won. I'm glad I didn't decline the position and that I actually won it.
Good luck and let us know what you decide to run for.
Carolyn

I'm running for SDC, although it's hard cause I think my big sis is regretting that she gave it up so I feel like I'm stepping on her toes a bit....I got nominated for it and I was thinking, hmmm, do I want to do this? But I did some research on it and all it entailed decided that I would love doing it. As for the Archon / Vice Archon thing, from what I've seen the Vice gets more work simply because Archon has so much more stress!

I'm sorry, but what is executive council? Is it different from Exec board?

Hi There,
Executive Council is made up of all the Committee Chairs and is supposed to meet with the Vice Archon at least once a month if not more. So essentially if you are on e-council that means you are a committee chair.
E-Board is the governing body of the sorority comprised of all the main officers, Archon, SDC, MAL, Tribune, etc.

Hey there,
I agree that Vice has a LOT of work and that Archon is VERY stressful...some may think that's weird it's just the Archon gets pressure from the chapter and the international....
I was MRC, MOC and Archon as well as Scholarship chair and a rep for our IFSC (i think that's it) MRC is also very stressful, esp if you're low on numbers.
I enjoyed being Archon, but I have regrets...I could've done a lot better...I was intimidated by my Vice so I let her get away with stuff and my MAL was MIA .....
Anyway, def go for Archon if you want it...if you don't get it you drop down to Vice anyway!
Good Luck to all of you running for positions!

We just had our elections for eboard officers. I am the new SDC...any past MOC's have any good ideas for me??? I was Archon. I'm in complete agreement with everyone else on the stress. It is hard and it's a lot of work, but it is completely worth it. Make sure you can trust your Vice and your MAL. That was my biggest piece of advice to our Archon elect when I trained her. Also, for those of you who have never been Archon...you don't know what it's like to come back to chapter. Maybe I'm the only one that felt this way, but it was almost like being gone for a year. I guess it's the whole no opinion/no vote thing. But just be respectful of them. Especially if they are older sisters that are returning and being an active officer. Trust me, it wasn't high up on my list to run for an eboard office, but I did because I know that it had to be done. So, just be nice to those Archons returning from their term. It's not a fun and easy as most peope think. There are a lot of things that you have to keep inside that you can't tell your whole chapter. So, just help them along their way. I've already heard nasty things and it hurts. So, don't let that happen to your past Archons. They are still sisters and special ones for being Archon for that year. Just as any other sisters from however many years ago.
Sorry, just my little spiel. Good luck to all of the new officers!

HI PhiSigFaerie,
It was very weird going back to be "just" an active sister after serving on E-board all my time in the sorority and especially after being Archon this past Academic Year. It took me a while to adjust to the fact that I did have a vote again and that I could speak up and give my point of view regarding issues. The first month or so was kind of iffy but now everything is much more relaxed. I love just being a committee chair and not being an eboard member. Since our Founding this is probably the most relaxed I have actually been in regards to being a sister. I do have to admit as it is coming closer to thinking about running for office there is a part of me that wants to run for eboard again. Even with all the stress I still miss it all.

running for an e-board position is a learning experience... i was scribe last year and it was a lot of work... but i molded the position into something that would be easy to do... but i suggest that you follow your heart in what you want to do and good luck!
