Talking Initiation

I am so happy because it's nearly January which means nearly initiation time. I had lunch with my little yesterday and I had to say goodbye to her for the vacation, and then I realized that soon after she comes back she will finaly be a sister. I am so excited because I am someone who absolutely LOVES initiation. I just wanted to know if other chapters do something with their littles after initiation and if they give them some special gifts. I know my family all has a special letter shirt that we give out after a sister was intiated! but I want to start some other kind of tradition with my family. Any ideas.

in my chapter every new initiate's big makes them an initiation basket..which must contain a photoalbum and either a pillow or a blanket w/their family tree on it..

they get other stuff too, sweatshirts, letters, pinboxes, lavaliers, stuff w/the crest on it, ,owls etc..but everyone in the chapter gets the photo album and the pillow

my family gets absolutely spoiled on initation. last year when i went through my big got me three sets of letters, a ton of chi omega stuff, a pin box, a beautiful silver braclet....i just hope i can afford to do everything that she did. We usually make a lot of the stuff, but we put it all in a basket. The only thing our entire chapter does is that the littles get stools made by the bigs on initation and then we all have a big party with our lovely new sisters!

Just a week ago I found out that a coworker of mine is a Chi Omega from my chapter! She will be initiated here in January!

My chapter had the big's of each initiate give them a hankerchief before initiation and then whatever they wanted afterwards. Most girls got a lavalier with the Chi Omega letters on it. Along with that were cards, pictures in frames, personalized Chi Omega stuff decorated by the big's...etc.

We write sweet letters to our lil and give them Chi O Must Haves: Owls, Chi O shirts, etc. After everyone gets initiated, families all celebrate and do dinner together.

We always did a symphony-paddle exchange right before initiation. Littles made a paddle, and bigs found a cool way to give a copy of the Symphony to their little. I made a nice copy and put it in a two sided frame, engraved with our names, her initiation date, and XO. Then I put a picture of us in the other side. Just something that can be displayed. We also always got them lavalieres.

We usually gave our littles a set of letters, a disk with Chi O letters (a pendant), a scrapbook, a famiy tree, a copy of the symphony and a pin pillow. It makes for a lot of work over the Christmas Break, but totally worth the effort for my little sister.

My family gets big fleece blankets embroidered with the crest, initation date and name.. makes for a cozy way to have a nice looking crest!

I'm thinking of making pin pillows for my two littles though... one is initiated, one is not.... they could have matching ones to go with their matching blankets lol.

I love little sisters and I LOVE LOVE LOVE initiation so much!!! yay! now I'm getting excited for January to come!!

My first little is getting initiated in less than a month. I've spoiled her rotten with letters, lavaliere, and a ton of Chi Omega stuff over the break. Here the littles give their bigs paddles, but we don't have like a chapter gathering to exchange them, littles do it at their leisure! I can't wait to get mine

At my school we get our lil's 3 things for their Initiation:
1) a stiched letter shirt - our chapter has a tradition of only initiated sisters wearing stiched letters because we want our girls to actually know what our letters mean before they can wear them.
2) a handkerchief for them to put into their bouquet of flowers at their wedding so if some of us cant make it there, she knows her sisters will be with her anyway Some girls have their lil's handkerchief embroidered with the crest or our letters.
3)every big gets their lil their first crest of Chi Omega

*we also have this tradition of going to a certain area of the campus at midnight the day of initiation and singing songs and we always sing Shades to the seniors. We also have this pond next to the building we do this at and it has also become tradition that the GM gets thrown in the pond . . . wish me luck . . . I'm the GM this year!! AGHH!! haha

With Chi O love,
~*Tracy
