Wedding Traditions

One of my ADPi Sisters is getting married this year and we, her, sisters, want to do something special for her, either at the reception, or before. We are all alum (been out of school less than 5 years). Any ideas? I know of some chapters who give new initates a garter after initation as a gift for them to use in their wedding one day, but my chapter didn't do anything like that when we were in school. Thanks!

I think what Alpha Xi's do is all gather around her at the reception and sing Alpha Xi songs.

I thought you had a song you sung?

I have friends in KKG, ADPi,KD, AOPi, Tri-sigma & SK-they all sing at weddings. Some of them actually sing the same song. Is there a song you guys sing for seniors, or at rush or something (NOT inititation!hee hee) that is really special?

What song do you sing at a candle passing? Lots of chapters sing that song at weddings. We do. All the girls get in a circle and hold hands, and the bride gets in the middle and is surrounded by us girls and we sing to her.

I LOVE the tea cup idea! How completely original is that?! And the garter? Wonderful suggestions! Hope some of the active chapters are taking notes...!!

The Alpha Xi's at my college each get a teacup & saucer from their big when they initiate. It is displayed until they graduate, then stored. Once the girl gets married, they give it to her.

My KD chapter does the garter thing. We get a garter from our big to wear for rituals, then wear it for our wedding. I found mine recently to get ready for my big day!!

Kappa Delta has lots of beautiful wedding traditions. There is a website (a public one, I believe) that outlines them. Maybe kdonline will give the address? (my mind is going today)

I have a friend who is a XO and she sang me part of the sing they sing to the brides at XO weddings, and it's absolutely gorgeous!! I've been to about 8 D Phi E weddings, and we did the pin on the bouquet thing and the garter thing. We also sing our new member class song at all of our pledge sisters' weddings...sad but true, there are only 2 of us left who aren't married!!!
