so much fun...
i just had to post this...i dont know if it is because i am still drunk, or if the lack of me posting on here has made me just want to do this...but i just got back from a formal of a sorority that is not popular at my school. my house would never associate with these girls, and everyone on campus makes fun of them for being the reject sorority. anyway, i went to their formal tonight and had a blast. i can honestly say it was one of the better sorority formals i have attended. anyway, i just wanted to let everyone know that sometimes the underdog is dope too.

Josh is awesome!
That is so true! My bestest friend in the whole wide world is in the "fat" sorority at her school. I have been to their functions/formals etc. My brother always goes as a date with one of her sisters to formals etc. Yes, SOME of the girls are larger than the anorexic chicks in the popular ones-but damn they can throw down! They are so nice and funny. They always come up short at formal rush because well....they aren't the popular ones. The popular frats won't do socials with them. So they've kinda paired up with the new frats. They are the first to welcome new groups, they make sure they are really involved as campus as orientation leaders and they get their name out there anyway!Every Thurs(?) is jersey day and Wednesday they always dress up a little nicer for class so they can wear their pins. It's a neat tradition. They just make their own fun. I am glad you had fun!
It's been my experience that guys usually prefer to be with fun girls no matter what they look like than hot ones who aren't fun. Fun counts a lot.
edited b/c i am a horrible typer.....

Josh, that's the same thing I've been trying to tell my guys. They threw an awesome philantrophy (No one denies that), and their girls are pretty cool to talk to. I don't see why everyone gives them this rap like that. Superficiality.........

Isn't it funny how at one school the "fat" or dorky, or just plain unpopular sorority is the most popular sorority at another college? I bet somewhere at another campus that sorority you went to has the most beautiful girls ever. Go underdogs!!!!
I'm glad you had fun!!

Josh, glad you had a good time at the formal and also recognized something in that sorority that others overlook.

i'm glad to hear you say that josh. we're the "fat" sorority at my school, but the funny thing is that we don't have one person that's overweight, and when we're not wearing letters and meet men from different fraternities they invariably think we're from the "cool" sororities, so i don't really get it.

=== sigh === why is it that the "unpopular" sorority has to be "unpopular" because the girls are unattractive or "fat" ??!! There are many more reasons a sorority can suck besides having unattractive people in it YES unattractive people *gasp* have fun too !! I don't mean to rant or anything but... EVERYONE is so preoccupied with looks...(myself included) and there's so much more to a person than what they weigh/look like that makes them worth hanging out with !! this gentlemen has just been reminded of that.

I missed this social, but this semester's best social we had was with the sorority that has the rep of being the "fat" one. I always liked the girls in that house, they were super nice and know how to have a good time.

Josh, you had a great experience and learned something important as well. Part of maturity is looking beyond the stereo type! These labels apply to fraternities as well, you just substitute the term "fat" with nerds, Mama's boys, sketchy etc.
There is an LSU fraternity (actually several because there are so many) that has a negative label attached to them. Yet when it comes to a party and treating the girls like treasures, they are top notch! My daughter always speaks highly of them as do MOST of the DGs- (You will always have a bit of snobbery in any given organization).
Now, you can help them. When you hear a crude remark, speak up and say something positive. Maybe, just maybe some of the people around you will take a deeper look.

When I started the Local, the only ones who associated with us were the "Fat Ones" the ADP!
Now tell me that the ADP are a bad Org!
Unfortantunatly 'comma' they are no longer on campus!
To this day I still love the Ladies of ADP!

All people have something to offer. You take what each group has. Careful with sororities though... The way those Panhellenic Rushes work a house that is down now will likely be up later! Treat all with equal respect! Sure you're going to have friends in some houses more than others but that is no reason to start labeling groups as "fat" or something...
Like Tom, the group that would probably have that label today was instrumental in us recieving our charter! They are still struggling but are definitely going to have an upswing as two of the 3 other sororities besides them are above quota, the other is close. So if someone wants to rush there are only 2 choices. I think that prospective rushees won't be disappointed either!
