Rushing the field...

With all of the rivalry games at the end of the season this seems to be an issue every year. Do ya'll see any problems with rushing the field and tearing down goalposts? I personally find it ridiculous that they get police to guard the stupid things. If you're paying $55 per seat and they have 75,556 seats... They can probably afford a new goalpost.

I think it's awesome, and so much fun!

It was one of my best memories of college. The last game ever at Pitt Stadium, we beat Notre Dame. The whole student section is preparing to rush the field, with these guys in the bright yellow stadium jackets reading "STAFF" looking scared shitless b/c there's like30 of them and thousands of us chanting "You can't stop us!" Haha. we rushed the field, those posts came down, and it was a blast. I remember turning around and there was a horse mounted cop right behind me.

The next year, we moved into 3 Rivers Stadium. We shut out Penn State (our most hated rival ) 12-0 and it was the last scheduled meeting between them. I almost got crushed while we were trying to rush the field, but the cops had guns and a "very active" prescence- anyone who stepped on the field got arrested.

They're stepping up security at this weekends game against West Virginia. The game doesn't necessarily mean THAT much to Pitt, but it will determine which team goes to the Gator Bowl.

They can't even put decent sod in at Heinz Field (where we play now)- has anyone seen a Steelers game lately? So i think the least of their concerns should be some stupid goalposts.

Some schools, especially urban schools like mine, are always complaining about school spirit. Well if we can't do anything fun like this, what are we supposed to do? It's bad enough that they moved our stadium off campus- yes it was a piece of crap, but it had a great college feel and atmosphere, was right on campus- now we have to take stupid buses down there and it takes up so much of your day.

I guess the whole no celebration thing is just following the rest of the overly-PC trend of the world.

$55 per seat? Are you talking college football?

The last time I rushed the field was back in 1999 when Fresno State came to play us. Ever since BYU left the conference, Fresno State became our biggest rival, so it's always a big deal everytime they come to town.

After last week's brawl on the field, security's being beefed up for the upcoming game against Alabama, and they're thinking about stopping beer sales early just in case things might get out of hand--which is ridiculous, IMO, because everyone's going to enter the game toasted anyway [because of the tailgate].

If tearing down the goalposts was a weekly thing, then I can understand why they'd be ultra-protective.

It's times like that that I'll remember the most fondly when I look back on how college was like.

At least they sell beer at your games......

You can only buy alcohol at Heinz Field if you really shell out the bucks for the special club seats.

Doesn't mean that there's not flasks and bottles snuck in everywhere you go.... at this very moment i'm trying to think of a good way to sneak in the bottle of Bailey's Irish Creme i just bought. Mmmmmm perfect for coffee and hot chocolate

Going to Nebraska, we have rarely been in a position where tearing the goalposts down is really acceptable. Obviously when you are the favorite always you don't get that opportunity.

If we had beaten Texas a couple of weeks ago I'm sure the students would have rushed the field. As apeshit as everyone went on that punt return by DeJuan Groce, it wouldn't have surprised me.

I think that it has happened way too often. If you upset someone that you were supposed to get creamed by, well then go ahead. However if it's your rival, then don't. It's extremely disrespectful, and I think all rivalries are based on respect for your opponent. That's why I may hate Colorado, but I dont' call them a rival b/c that would give them respect that they have yet to show us. Same thing with K-state. I hate both, but the only rival we really have is Oklahoma. I hate oklahoma, but I respect them, and am willing to root for them as long as they aren't playing us.

Those are general seats, right?

We've got people here bitching about the $28 price of UH-Alabama tickets!

Yeah, those are general seats.. Once the stadium improvements are finished I'd hate to see what skybox seats cost.

The best seats of course are given out to donors like everywhere else.

At most universities in the SEC, you have to make a donation to the athletic department for each set of season tickets you would like to buy.

For instance, say you would like to buy 4 season tickets, you need to be willing to cough up at least $400 just to qualify to buy them.

So, the $35 or so ticket price per game isn't too terribly bad, but don't forget about the donations.

At the University of Hawaii, there's a Premium Seat "Donation" for each set of season tickets. Student season tickets normally cost $77, and the donations are around $50 or $25, depending on how close you are to the 50.

Individual game tickets cost $4 each to sit in the student section.

How you feel about Colorado is how we feel about the techsters, and how y'all feel about OU is how we consider Texas.

As i stated on the OSU-Michigan thread, i think that tearing down your own school's goalposts is classless. You really want to impress people? Act like you've been there before. A&M beat the #1 team in the country, did anyone rush the field? No. The fish chased yell leaders like they always do after a home win, we sang the War Hymn and the Alma Mater, and went to do our partying on Northgate.

That sucks that y'all consider this school spirit. To me, it's another reason why i'm proud to call myself an Aggie.

Kitso
KS 361 times i'd rather us win and lose with class than tear down goalposts

well said kitso

our tickets are only $4 and usually given away free for good grades, comm. serv, etc..

we hardly ever win football games, so no worries the best sport we have here at uml is hockey, and no one has ever rushed the rink, although i've seen people throw things onto the ice...

on a partially related subject, our mascot is rowdy the riverhawk, and we have a fan club called "blue fan group".. well they announced over the loudspeaker at the last game we should all join the blue fan group the "rowdiest group of students on campus".. alot of greeks were sitting together and we all started laughing hysterically and an AST yelled "apparantly you've never seen plymouth street (greek row) on a thursday night!!!"
fun times.

Very well said.

Plus, when people rush the field, you will get you idiots that might try to do something to the opposing team. I feel that using pepper spray is a good thing to keep fans in their seats. Like kitso said, act like you;ve been there before.

Before our game with UW, people had talked about rushing the field and going at the goal posts.. that is, until someone found out that they are buried14 feet underground encased in cement.. no way that those babies were coming down!

Then we didn't even get a chance to rush our own field.. but that's a whole other story.. still very bitter about that. From what I hear, Gesser should be playing (lightly) in the UCLA game, but we'll either be using Kegal (damn!) or Hurd (yeah!).
