Pace

Help! I just became in charge of PACE at my school and right now we don't do anything for it. I think this program could be so great and we could all benefit from it. What do some of you guys do at your schools? I would LOVE to get some outside ideas!
Thanks ladies!
AOT,
Laura

I think great ideas include speakers on various subjects. You and Gracious Living could get together to get some fun stuff going. I was an alum before PACE began, so I am not sure about actual programs, call your CPP maybe?

Maybe now that PACE is a little older we can share some of our ideas!
We just had a PACE presentation last night at our meeting, and I was wondering what some of the other chapters do for it. We made cards for another member in the chapter for the communication element (it was really sweet) and we talked about how we can participate in charitable causes for the enlarging our world aspect. We sort of had a big group discussion for personal presence and attitude.
It would be really cool to get some ideas circulating, I'm considering taking the PACE chair in my chapter for next year!

I dont really remember what we did for P A & C. But for enlarging our world we often had sisters who came from different ethnic backgrounds, or who were studying perhaps other cultures and languages do presentations.

One example was one of our girls who was majoring in Chinese History had a presentation and taugth us some Chinese words. One girl cooked an all Italian meal on her birthday and another girl who was Korean was all about bringing different types of Korean food into the chapter. We also organized outings to museums as well as plays and other events held on campus.

So I'm definitely the person in my chapter who comes up with a million ideas and very few are ever heard, so here are some of mine for PACE. Hopefully they'll help someone out there.

I def think that PACE has an awesome place within our chapters, but it's not focused on enough. That, or it's made to seem boring and people just don't want to care about it.

General:
-A great way to make it fun is to have Gracious Living stand up and give a fun etiquette type tip every week at chapter. My chapter used to do this, and I absolutely loved it. The national site has fun weekly tips in the PACE section too, so you they could just snag them from there.
-have a fun facts board at the house with a neat fact for each area of PACE. Change it once a week, or once every other. The national site has fun PACE quiz section you could get the facts from

Personal Presence:
-host a fashion show or spa day for a local Girl Scout troop (also ties into "E")
-have a spa day for the chapter: do manicures, play around with fun hairstyles, and even have someone who's good at makeup give tips in the chapter

Attitude:
-hold a self-esteem workshop for the chapter or even a Girl Scout troop. So much of our attitude comes from how we view ourselves
-have a smile board at the house where sisters where sisters are encouraged to leave each other anonymous nice messages, in hopes to make one another smile

Communication Skills:
-have someone come in and speak about how to be successful in an interview. This will help women not only snag jobs later in life, but also in the recruitment process

Enlarging our world:
-one of the easiest ways to keep your social calendar full. You don't have to go downtown or have typical mixers for this to work- plan a formal dinner with a fraternity on campus and put all of your other PACE skills to the test; have a movie night with another sorority on campus, just keep reaching out to others!
-have a cutural dinner at your house once a semester, where everyone is required to bring one dish from another country and have a cool fact about that country with their dish to teach others
-before an election have a night educating sisters on how to register to vote, how to vote, and important issues in society

*When I say house I also mean meeting place for chapters without houses

And now I must run to work! I'll add more later!

Lightbulb

We are reorganizing our chapter so a CDC from nationals is leading our New Member meetings. We took the entire month of February and divided it into four groups of consecutive days. The first group was "P"...so each day we thought of a different idea to improve our "Personal Presence." So each day we helped each other achieve our goals that we had set. There were some creative ideas...like pin attire day (P), make a Valentine for a sister (A), call an old friend (C), and travel to someplace new (E).
