Question Frank Solich

Nebraska fans...

What do ya'll think of Solich since he's been around? I'm just curious as to how you feel about your current coach and the team's lack of performance?

i met him at football camp in high school, great guy, knows football, but some have it and some dont. he was good before he was a head coach, but im not sure he is willing enough to make the changes the team needs and im not convinced he can recruit too well either.

I miss Tom!
LOL!

I don't watch a lot of Nebraska football since I'm usually working during the game times, but I think he's getting a lot of flack about his coaching and as Chopper said, recruiting.

We lost a great quarterback, and things won't be the same for a while. HOWEVER, using what you've got and knowing when to change things up could be something benificial (if he'd just do it).

I honestly like the guy. I think that this season has been a combination of a lot of little things going wrong that have added up.

I think that as a head coach he has the capability. In response to what Chopper said about recruiting - While under Osbourne, Frank was one of the top recruiting coaches. He did most of the leg work and Osbourne would be the one to seal a deal if it looked like a recruit would be lost, however as I understand it Frank signed most of the players in the later years.

Another important thing that is often overlooked is that at about this same point in Osbourne's career (5-7 years after he took over) he had these same types of difficulties. It took the man like 22 years to get his first National Championship, and like 12 years or so to get to his first national championship game something that Solich did last year.

The problem with the the coaching staff in my opinion is not Solich but Defensive Coordinator Craig Bohl. He is in my mind the problem with why the defense cannot seem to stop anyone.

I also think that Jamaal Lord is problem. He doesn't run the option well, he seldom is able to make two good throws consecutively, and he lacks patience in the passing game. It seems as though that if after his first run through of his receivers he takes that as a sign that he should run the ball. Further in the open field he lacks the ability to make tacklers miss...something that doesnt' make sense since he seems elusive in the backfield...

IMHO Nebraska football is NOT on the way out. David Horne the true freshman has been very good so far this year, and I expect big things out of the recently red-shirted Curt Dukes at QB...so in 3-4 years we'll be top 15 again.

i dont think you can compare osborne's start as a coach to solichs. times were different then, the mentality of win now or else your gone wasnt nearly what it is today. osborne had time to do it, he didnt have sponsors breathing down your back to win then, solich does now, and when he took over he had a lot going for him, but as time passed, he proved he could do very little with a lot.

Are we forgetting that it was just January when Nebraska was in the National Championship game? Are we forgetting that it was a year ago this week that Nebraska beat Oklahoma in a battle of number #2 vs #3 in the polls (1 vs 2 in the BCS). The game where Solich was the toast of Husker fans everywhere for "Black 41 Flash Reverse". Granted we got beat handily by Miami, but it was fairly obvious that pretty much everyone would have. It still is an accomplishment that we got there no matter how much anyone else might have complained.

Is it easy to say that the guy has not won while he's been coach? Looking at the statistics Solich is ranked #4 in history based on number of wins in his first 4 years as head coach, where he is really #2 among coaches in the modern era.

I will say that times were different when Osborne took over the team, however the fact that Solich has outperformed Osborne in the same time period remains the same.

Further I don't think that the sponsors have much say in any of this. Bill Bryne the Athletic Director, from all accounts that I've heard is a very principled man. He is very consistent in his judgements and very aware of the image that is projected by the Athletic Department. Even people who don't like the man respect him because of fairness and even-handedness. I know the Cheerleading coach (she's one of my professors) and many of the cheerleaders and they don't like him because he told them they weren't allowed to stunt anymore, but they have given me examples on how he's made very similar judgements and he doesn't back down. I don't think that Bryne is giving in to sponsors. Further the Husker nation has shown time and time again it's faithfulness - it seems like a very large and everpresent demographic, one that advertisers shouldn't be worried about dissappearing.

Nebraska should not have been in last years championship game at all. I still think they will go this year as well despite 3 losses. Like most Nebraska fans will tell you, "we're still good!". Lord for heisman next year!

yeah right, our qb sucks, and nebraska faces a very real possibility of having a losing season and not going to a bowl game in my opinion, and i agree, oregon shouldve been in that title game last year, they wouldve faired better against miami

That'd be the fault of the BCS... It's actually true though that Nebraska happened to have a tougher schedule than Oregon did. That's why they ended up in the championship game.

I don't think that there was any offense AND defense that could have stacked up to Miami last year.

With that being said, I still would put the huskers in the title game just like last year. They deserve to go every year. You never know also, Lord could end up doing better in the nfl than crouch did
