What do you think of Delta Upsilon (DY) and should national rep matter when joining

I go to a decently large school with an active greek life scene with around 5k students. I’ve been rushing around and got a bid to a house earlier this week, and it’s DY. I had a good time there, they have a large house, and they said i made a good impression.

From what I see on here, they have a rep of being a bit nerdy and stuff, but this chapter seems to be completely opposite, with many guys looking and behaving like regular frat-guys similar to our more popular top-houses, but just fun and easy to hangout with, they still party, they got waivers so they aren’t dry, they are active socially and with philanthropy- so they seem very different from other chapters stereotypes.

Nationally, like said some ppl think of them as more nerdy, but my other main concern is DY is smaller too with around 110,000 members? And while i do want to be in a frat for brotherhood and social life, i still would like to have professional benefits when i graduate like alumni connections and possible internship/job offers, and im not sure how much being in a smaller organization might affect that. If anyone with similar experiences or from DY can answer

So i was just wondering what ppl in greek life think of Delta Upsilon? Is it considered small and is that a problem? Should i worry about their national reputation (being nerdy apparently?) or be fine joining my chapter which seems more stereotypical FERDA/Frat-Like?

Just an fyi: By practice, GreekChat posters do not publicly discuss the reputations of organizations, whether nationally or locally.

Here's what I (and most of GC members) will say: If you like the chapter and the members, join. If you can hang out and be yourself with the local brothers, join.

As for the alumni connections and internships, I can promise you that those exist in Delta Upsilon. The biggest issue that I have experienced is that undergrads don't see those out themselves by reaching out, they expect the alumni to come to them with the offers.

I promise, you will get a lot more out of your chapter and experience if you join an organization where you like the members instead of joining another because of perceived benefits after graduation.

Hear hear!! If you like them, feel comfortable around them, go for it. In my experience, it was the fact that I was a member of a Greek organization and had held offices within my chapter that mattered, not the fact that my chapter was well regarded on campus.

It's all about where you fit in and the guys you will surround yourself with. When I went through, I thought I had to be in xyz because my cousin was in that chapter. Now, looking back, what was I thinking? No need to impress anyone else but yourself.

I am a member of DU. Like any national/international organization DU has larger and smaller chapters. Currently DU has 65 chapters/ associate chapters.On a national level DU has just concluded a successful fundraising campaign and has a solid endowment through the DU Educational Foundation . The professional staff is well organized and competent. DU has 143,000 alumni and 89,000 living alumni.
All of this matters but your choice of a local chapter matters more, go where you feel comfortable and can make friends that is 90 per cent of why you should join, the rest is a per cent add on.
