USC Panhellenic has announced via their Instagram account that recruitment will continue on schedule but understands that some PNMs and their families are likely to be affected by the current wildfires in Southern California. PNMs are being requested to contact USC Panhellenic Recruitment Counselors if they have conflicts or wish to withdraw from recruitment due to the situation.
USC Panhellenic has stated that the first round of parties will begin at 11:30 and they encourage all to stay safe today.
Hopefully there are no outdoor activities planned.
Note-I live miles from where the fires are occurring (the South Bay) but the air quality is terrible. My niece and her boyfriend have had to evacuate from their Pasadena home. My neighbor's son-in-law is working to put out the fires in Pacific Palisades.

Update-USC Panhellenic Recruitment is now postponed for tomorrow.
Fire has now started in the Hollywood Hills.
UCLA and Pepperdine University are closed for Thursday and Friday.
All of Los Angeles Unified School District and 19 other school districts are closed tomorrow and likely on Friday.

The footage has been so heartbreaking. I truly hope everyone in the LA area is safe.

So round 1 is now going to be virtual. With how terrible the situation is I wonder if it'll move to being virtual for the rest of recruitment.

IMHO this might be the best solution for this year's primary recruitment. I believe that many people who involved with recruitment from PNMs to the advisors who assist will have been impacted.
Fortunately, virtual recruitment was the norm a few years ago and the seniors in the chapters likely participated in virtual recruitment themselves.

During Covid, like many other universities, USC had virtual recruitment. This was a boon for the entire Row. Nearly all chapters made quota as PNM‘s got to talk to more members and weren’t dazzled by all the bells and whistles or gossiped in tent talk.
Note: I’m in LA County and the photos and videos are horrible. There are also now arsonists setting fires in other areas, like studio city and Beverlywood, causing even more havoc and devastation. Luckily, I live in an area that’s not affected (so far), though the air quality is bad. Just to be safe, I do have a bag packed of essentials in case and evacuation is called for.

Hi ChioLu. I agree that virtual recruitment should be fairly easy for all involved.
Glad that you are staying safe. Yes the videos and photos are heartbreaking. My niece and her boyfriend had to evacuate and fire came within 4 blocks of her Pasadena home. They're still staying with her parents in South Pasadena because the water supply at home is now contaminated. She teaches in LAUSD, so for now campuses are closed.
I'm closer to LAX, so we're fine and just dealing with poor air quality.
My neighbor's son-in-law is LACo Fire fighter and has finally come off his shift on the Palisades fire for at least 24 hours. He and his team believe that arson is playing a big role in these many fires.

So a quick update; round 2 will be in person as of now. This could change later.
