Most Ques (Omega Men) who know some of our history know that The Ritual we now have came into its initial form because of the work of Bro. Dr. George I. Lythcott, MD. But many do not know that this work was originally tasked to Bro. Warren W. Purdy (Beta Chapter, Lincoln Univ. (Pa)) by Grand Basileus (National President) J. Alston Atkins in 1921, while both were students at the Yale School of Law, and members of the newly-established Chi Chapter at Yale. During this time, Bro. Purdy had to withdraw from law school due to a serious illness and went home to Americus, GA to convalesce. Even in the midst of his illness he continued his work on the revision of The Ritual. He passed away engaged in this work. This was a reflection of his true devotion to the Fraternity and its ideals. The following link is to the February 1922 issue of The Oracle which on pages 21-22 has a note by Bro. Purdy giving his thoughts on the rationale and importance of his work on The Ritual.
