last night...
Grr... this Phi almost wanted to throw down a Tri Sigma. I was at this party and I was telling everyone and I do mean everyone that I had gotten initiated that day and that I was so happy. I told her and she looked at me and said, no you got pledged in. I said no it was initiated. She said no that I was pledged, as if she would know. I told her that I had turned in my pledged pin and got initiated.
By the way the Theta pledge class got initiated quickly because rush was held late and our president wanted us to be able to vote.
After I told her that she said that was so stupid.
I looked at her and said if you say one more thing about my sisters and my sorority that she was not gonna like what will happened.
She just walked off.
WTF? As if she had the right to say that. I try not to do the whole competition between the other sorority, but that chick needs to be pro-greek and her sorority.
I wanted to slap her but then I remembered I was trying to recruit this girl I met and it wouldn't of set a good example.
Anywho had to get that off my chest,
Love,
Amanda

Aww. I am sorry to hear about your unfortunate situation. Now, saying "if you say one more thing about my sisters and my sorority that she was not gonna like what will happened" isn't very A-Phi like, I can understand your anger. Different groups are different and becoming angry over a term is just silly. Everyone was there to have a good time. Glad she walked away because I know that she definitely wouldn't have liked what would have followed.

I can see why you would have been frustrated with this person. It sounds like she was trying to push your buttons and get under your skin. Some people get a sick joy out of seeing how far they can push you. The problem is that when you respond, you're giving them what they wanted all along AND, worst of all, you're coming down to their level.
The best thing to do in these situations is prove that you are the bigger person by letting it go--what better way to prove that Alpha Phis have class and style than to live it everyday?
We're Alpha Phis and we're above getting into an arguement with some silly person. You can prove you have class and dignity by saying in your sweetest voice with your most gorgeous smile, "I'm sorry you don't understand how exciting this is for me. I would certainly have been happy for you." Then walk away knowing you took the high road.

Sorry I'm not an A-Phi, but I think that the girl didn't understand A-Phi's pledge process. I attended the university of Northern Co. and the Alpha-Phi's allow their new members to wear block letters on bid day, whereas all the other houses do not allow new members to wear block letters until initiation which is anywhere from 6-8 weeks. I'm assuming that A-Phi's still have an inititaion process
Anyway the girl probably didn't realize that A-Phi did things differently than her house.

Alpha Phi allows women to wear letters from the day they pledge across the country. We generally have a six week new member program, similar to other NPC groups.
It sounds like this young lady just did not understand that different chapters operate differently and may not have realized that Alpha Phi had actually initiated their new members.

Well, said, Laura.
Also, the new member period can vary somewhat from 6 weeks up to 12 weeks.
(There used to be a really good webpage outlining this on the UT website, but it is gone now.)
Sorry to hear that this person got the better of you, Amanda, but it sounds like you managed to keep it together, for the most part.
