What do I give to my friend who is having their probate?

Hey I don't know anything about Greek Life but one of my friends sent this mysterious message to our friends and my other friends explained to me that it means her probate for the sorority (one of the Divine Nine) she's joining is this week. They said I should get her a gift, but I don't know what the norm is? Do I get her something with the colors or official apparel? Or just nice jewelry not related to the sorority at all? We are best friends so I want to get her something very nice.

I saw several probates in my time and while I'm not an NPHC member here's what I've noticed:

-usually if you know their line number people will come with a balloon in the color of their org (for example if your friend was #1 on her line and in AKA you could get her a pink or green #1 balloon)

-generally if her chapter is generous they'll be stocking her up with greek paraphernalia as presents for her crossing. But if you can find a reputable apparel shop and see something she might like, you can get it for her.

Congratulations to your friend and it's a wonderful gesture from you to support your friends probate.

It's appropriate to give gifts with sorority letters and crest such as desk items, shirts, jackets-->(not line/crossing), tote bag, nice necklace, etc. Please use a licensed vendor (each sorority has a list on their national website). I'll post a few below that are ok. Please also use good judgement when making your purchase. They (your friend and the sorority members) will appreciate it.
