Need white shoes now!
I am being alumna initiated into Gamma Phi Beta (yay!) this month. I'm having a difficult time finding white shoes. I've checked a lot of sites on the internet with no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you!

Target usually keeps white canvas (Keds type) tennis shoes in stock and carries wide width.
If you want something dressier, check Payless or a Bridal Shop for fabric shoes (Dyeables brand).

also, any bridal or formal shop will usually have those dyeable shoes, or other white shoes for wedding gowns.

LOL!! We went through this 2 years ago for AOPi and finding closed-toe shoes in October is no picnic! Ditto for a white dress that isn't strapless or spaghetti-strapped...her chapter required that the NMs be somewhat "covered".
Sooo...this year we shopped for white dresses and shoes when we shopped for the rush outfits and now I know someone is gonna tell me that XO doesn't even require white for initiation.

I have a general question I wanted to throw out to y'all...
Does your organization *REQUIRE* closed toe shoes?
Prior to my first Convention last summer, I thought that it was set in stone that it was white, closed-toe, and hose..and nothing else. Imagine my relief when I discovered [from our International Chair-Ritual] that open-toe shoes were okay, just as long as we wore hose. The whole closed-toe thing was something that enforced by a previous chapter advisor and that's why everyone in my chapter had been following that rule.
Still, you can't go wrong with Payless. Yeah, your feet will eventually hurt...but for $7.99 it's not so bad.

Ohh, the age old sorority woman dilemma! I had a great time finding white shoes in February for my initiation. Eeek. I was thinking that it would be very profitable to open up an online store specializing in cute, fashionable, white attire for initiation.
I would suggest Nordstrom, either in person or www.nordstrom.com because they have a great shoe selection, including these cuties:

OTW, as far as I know we don't require closed toe, but I think we should.
In addition to the suggestions above, most dept stores sell those flats by Enzo that come in all colors. They are comfy and you can actually wear them in everyday life. If you don't see white on the sales floor, ask the clerk - they might have some stashed away.

My chapter doesn't really worry about shoes... In fact, most of us don't wear shoes. I'm not sure if we're supposed to, or if it's just because it's so hard to find white shoes... But we don't. We wear our whites, just... not shoes.
When I think about it, that's sort of weird.

wow, we don't require closed toed shoes, or even hose. Our only stipulation is that it be an all-white dress that is at least knee length (although this has been stretched in recent years)

We have to wear white for Convention. You see women in everything from prom dresses to tennis skirts to bizarre lacy things to slips! Some of our members joked about wearing tablecloths. I really did see a woman in a slip. You could see right through. How embarrassing...

It's interesting to see that so many chapters require their new members to wear white....ours doesn't require anything in particular....

It's not that we require just new members to wear whites. With the exception of a few ceremonies, everyone has to wear whites. We don't require dresses either, you can wear dresses, skirts, pants, shorts... anything, as long as it's white.
