Sigma Chi kicked off Mizzou Campus
Hey, it's almost midnite here and about an hour ago they announced on the news that Sigma Chi was kicked off University of Missouri's campus tonight.
They were our homecoming partners last year! Before that they never were involved in much, I kinda feel bad for them....
But lately they had a rush infraction for having a keg in their house and also accusations of rape brought against them, so I guess they knew it was coming.
If I find out anything else i"ll let you guys know.

Hopefully the allegations were wrong!

Kind of sad that ACCUSATIONS can lead to someone losing recognition.
A keg in their house... Bold move on their part... Rush is competitive but when you have a keg at your rush parties, what kind of men are you going to attract? I'd guess the wrong kind.
If the rape charges are true maybe you're lucky not to be doing homecoming with them again.

The may be kicked off campus but hopefully their nationals didn't pull their charter.

AXJules,
I am sorry to hear that you lost your homecoming partner. I disagree with allegations being grounds for kicking someone off campus, but perhaps the University has more information than they are releasing. I certainly hope though that the rape allegation is wrong!
Try not to let the actions of another group get you and your sisters down! You can still have a wonderful homecoming and watch MU beat up on KU!
Hugs from a Mizzou Alum,
M&M

AXJules~Hey nice to see another Mizzou girl on here!
I was going to post this same topic but you got to it first!
Anyway, from what I have heard (on the news), they have been kicked off campus for four years due to hazing incidents. The university received anonymous e-mails apprently from some pledges who reported the incidents. I only know a few Sigma Chi's so I can't say a whole lot about this, except for the reason as to why they were kicked off. It's unfortunate that stuff like this happens. AXJules, good luck with Homecoming this year!!!

Hey FAB, yeah i don't see any Mizzou representation here so I'm glad we can do it!
I know some people on pan-hel, heard they were kicked off for 4 years, they must be out in 30 days from today.
The reasons were-
hazing allegations
rush alcohol infractions (we have a DRY campus, for the rest of you, so a keg was a big deal)
the rape allegations, still investigating but definitely not a good thing for them
Since Frat Row isn't Mizzou property I don't really understand how we could make them move out in 30 days, but I guess if we don't recognize them, then nationals probably won't keep their house, either....

I met a Beta from Mizzou this past summer. We had discussed the great rivalry between the Betas and Sigma Chis on that campus. They have been dominant on that campus for decades, but the kid I was talking to said that in the past 5-7 years, the EX house has slid downhill due to a lot of things ranging from drugs/alcohol, bad grades and hazing.
It sucks to hear about such a great chapter losing their status on campus. Best of luck to Mizzou EX.

It's always too bad to hear about houses having to leave -- I remember that SX had a fire when I was an undergrad. Not only did their house burn down, but one of their memebers died in the fire.
If there are allegations of rape, the University probably isn't taking them lightly because the former MU Greek Life director; and the Curators of the University of Missouri system were sued by a woman who was raped in a fraternity house a few years ago. Her attorney's alleged that the university’s lack of action — in reporting the incident or reprimanding the man and his fraternity —was a violation of Title IX.
The suit was dropped against the University, but the victim was awarded $300,000 in compensatory and punitive damages by the defendant. I'm sure the University doesn't want to get themselves in the same mess. All this info can be found on www.themaneater.com.
The good news is that Lambda Chi Alpha is coming back to Mizzou!

It's actually kinda funny- there was an article in the Mizzou Greek newspaper last week about Lambda Chi not having a house because there's no available land on campus. Something tells me they might be interested in some property available on Fraternity Row.

AXJules~
My sisters and I were thinking the EXACT same thing! I haven't met any Lambda Chi's yet, but we're living in their old house now, and we have their old house mom. Kinda weird! Hopefully the Lambda Chi's will be able to secure some housing, it seems as though fraternities and sororities can't survive here without big mansions to live in, or plans of a future home.....oh well...

a similar thing occured on our campus. D-chi lost their recognition from CSUS due to hazing incidents and one incident occuring during greek week. it's kinda sad because they are our founding brothers. But their nationals haven't pulled their charter. So the school says that the only way they can be recognized by the school is if they don't recruit or be involved in campus activities as a whole for five years. but they recruit on the sly and hold parties still. however, PHC told us that we cannot do anything involving D-Chi or else we get in trouble too. So I kinda understand where you are coming from.
