Pledging a 2nd Organization

Hi all,

How do you all feel/what examples do you have, regarding, someone in a national organization moving schools...their national isn't there...so they pledge a 2nd group because they miss being involved in greek life so much?

What are the Panhel rules regarding this? etc.

Thanks!
CG

NOT in NPC!

If you have been initiated into an NPC sorority you CAN'T pledge another NPC group. If you dropped or de-pleged before being initiated then you can pledge another group. You are free to pledge a local or a service organization as long as that groups rules permit.

Great! I tried to search GreekChat and couldn't locate them. Do you know of any threads off hand I could look at?

Straight from NPC's website (http://www.npcwomen.org/policies/p_agreements.php):

A woman who is or who has ever been an initiated member of an existing NPC fraternity shall not be eligible for membership in another NPC fraternity. (1)

Thank you,

What about pledging a local? Above a post says this is ok.

This is ok as long as both organizations give permission? Does the rushee have to disassociate from the national to join the new local?

How to the new and old orgs tend to feel about this?

And furthermore, what if the local one day wants to become national?

Is that person not officially recognized by the 2nd group?

Will that organization not be able to ever become national with that person in their group?

Yes, you could pledge a local or a national service/professional organization.

As a member of an NPC org, however, your commitment is considered lifelong. Instead of joining a local group, my opinion is that you should get involved in your fraternity's area alumnae association and keep you bond alive that way.

If a local group joined an NPC organization, you would not be eligible to stay a member of that group. The group's eligibility would not be jeopardized by your current membership, but your membership would be revoked once a national group accepted the local as a colony.

I actually worked with a local organization at FSU that was trying to become affiliated with an NPC group. At least 2 of their local members had pledged and initiated with 2 other NPC organizations at other campuses. The Exec Board asked these 2 women to resign their membership once they found out about the NPC rules. Unfortunately, the group has since disbanded and never got to realize their goal.

You could lie about your former affiliation, but is that really fair to either group? My opinion is, no, it's not.

I was thinking the same thing!

ColumbiaGreek, this is a great way to keep your sisterhood alive! Some very good friends of mine are current members of a future DPhiE colony, and I transferred to another school. I'm trying to see what I can do to start DPhiE here!

I would greatly recommend trying this. It might be difficult, but I am sure it will be well worth it in the end!

You could also try a professional or service GLO like someone already mentioned. I'm a member of a professional co-ed fraternity (Go Deltasigs!) and it is amazing.
