Question knowing girls b4 rush

I am going to be a sophmore this fall and will be going through formal rush in January. I was in a sport last year that didnt allow me to meet very many people. I decided to not play that sport anymore and rush instead bc I want to be involved on campus and experience greek life. My question is how important is knowing the sisters b4 rushing? At my school rushing as a sophmore is not unusual and most people are told that if you really want to join a house then you will find one. Will I be at a disadvantage not knowing a lot of sisters? I know a few girls in a few houses but not A LOT! Help!!!!

The best thing is to go in with an open mind! You may have some preconcieved ideas and find that they were all wrong!
You should look to your heart and what yuou feel comfortable with! Remember, you will be a member for life.
I always hate when someone from a Greek Organization states they were a member from so and so colege.
I am and all of the Brothers that I keep in touch with from all chapters around the country ARE LAMBDA CHI ALPHAS!!!!
Good luck in you rush! I was 24 when I started my local and am still very much involved and keep in touch with many of My Brothers!

95-99%% of the women going through Recruitment do not know any of the sisters in the chapters they visit. You will not be at a disadvantage in the least.

Keep an open mind, enjoy your time with each chapter, ask pertinent questions (do you research!) and make a point of getting to know the chapter during your time at each house.

I will also be rushing as a sophomore. I don't see not knowing many of the girls a disadvantage. I don't know that many either. Out of the 4 sororities at my school, I am friends with just 1 girl in two of the sororities and really good friends with 3 in another sorority. One of my main goals at rush is to meet a bunch of different girls, make great friendships, and of course get a some wonderful sisters!! I watched my good friends go through rush as incoming freshmen when the only other people they knew were each other. The only advantage I can see is that by knowing girls in sororities, you know what the sororities involve(i.e. certain sororities' standards, what type of community service or social parties do they have). But you can always ask these type of questions during rush.

Honestly, I think it is best to know as many girls as possible, not just because it could possibly give you an advantage, but it would make you feel more comfortable at the parties. But, if you have Rush at the beginning of school, the best thing you can do is go to the parties with a great attitude and a sincere interest in each sorority. It's really great to meet someone that you don't know and who shows a genuine interest in your sorority...so I don't think that you are at a disadvantage at all aslong as you have a positive attitude and get to know as many girls AT the parties as you can.

Cool

It sounds like rush at your school is pretty laid back so it shouldn't be a problem. You might know more sorority women than you think, from classes, your dorm, etc. If you see a familiar face don't be afraid to say "oh you were in my biology class" or whatever - everyone likes to know they've been noticed.
