Our National President Denise McCullars has announced that September 11, 2002, will be Badge Day for Delta Zeta. Her letter to all Delta Zeta sisters is copied below. Please wear your badges with pride tomorrow, ladies.
Dear Delta Zeta Sisters,
As we are all too aware, the anniversary of the date which forever changed America is rapidly approaching. None of us can forget the horror of September 11, 2001. And I am sure none of us will forget the rush of patriotism our country experienced immediately after the terrorist attacks, and the strength we drew from each other as we banded together in support.
As you now know, Delta Zeta members were an integral part of the support our country experienced after September 11th. Collegians and alumnae collected donations, clothing, and other items to send to rescue workers and the families of the victims. Many organized blood drives and donated services to local or national charitable organizations to help during the crisis. Some of our members traveled to Ground Zero and volunteered to help in the rescue and recovery efforts.
On September 11th, please take a moment to remember those who lost their lives in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. Remember, too, the two Delta Zeta sisters who perished in the attacks: Alicia Titus A and Melissa Vincent OQ. Our prayers go out to all of our members who may have lost a loved one on that day. Time cannot lessen that loss, but we hope that the love and support of your Delta Zeta sisters bring comfort and strength to those of you who need that encouragement.
To further show our support and in remembrance of that day, I’m asking all of our members to proudly wear your red, white, and blue ribbons on September 11, 2002. As Delta Zetas, we can also show pride in our country and our Sorority by wearing our badge on that day. We are blessed to be citizens in a country where our Founders had the freedom to organize Delta Zeta, and where today we have the freedom to celebrate a century of sisterhood. Our badge represents that freedom.
We also encourage our members to participate in local memorial ceremonies and services to pay honor and tribute to those who were lost in this tragedy. Recognize your local law enforcement officers, firefighters, and volunteers in your community who help citizens every day. Remember your Delta Zeta sisters who have given their lives for our country, and those who have given so graciously of themselves in many areas of community service.
Thank you for representing the best of Delta Zeta at a crucial time in our country’s history. With this kind of support, the love of freedom and the crusade for justice will never die in America.
In steadfast love,
Denise McCullars
National President
