cool beans

This is so cool. I have a co-worker who's into science and he shared this new initiative with me. All I could do was
He says that the top two women in AAAS are African-American and he wasn't sure, but one of them may be a Soror.

Thanks for sharing Soror.

Delta SEE Connection Radio Show

Kudos to Soror Boyd and Soror Bailey for taking this initiative to next level

Delta SEE Radio

The Delta SEE radio show, the Delta SEE Connection, is designed to highlight the research or careers of African-American scientists, engineers and mathematicians (SEM), with an emphasis on how that research serves society as a whole and how it impacts, particularly on our communities. The show will be centered at a college campus [primarily Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)], a government agency, or nonprofit organization. The program will showcase scientists from the seven Delta regions.

Delta SEE Connection is a partnering effort with WOL Radio and affiliate stations. The radio show host is Dr. Dhyana Ziegler, Vice President for Technology at Florida A & M University.

The show is scheduled to launch in the greater Washington, DC, area on April 26, 2003. It will air from 5-6 pm on Saturdays and will run for 26 weeks. Each show will air for 43 minutes and will include several segments:

An initial discussion with the president or director of a science institution, agency or organization, who will describe the major types of scientific research being done there.
A segment that features one or two African-American college/university students majoring in SEM areas; these students will be undergraduate, graduate or postdoctorate fellows.
A brief but comprehensive news segment that features SEE in the regions — science programs for families and children that Delta SEE Regional and State Coordinators are conducting. This segment will be done by the Project Manager, Sue White.
A closing commentary that ties the show together by Dr. Shirley Malcom of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, our PI and SEE partner.
WOL Radio will offer "promos” all week prior to the show. Clips from each will be made available on the Delta SEE website.

The series will be distributed to radio stations in African-American markets and to HBCU-based radio stations. These stations may air each show in its entirety or use clips from the shows.
