Unhappy How to get sisters to go to meetings

Hi,

I am Satina, the Vice Archon form Theta Sigma. For some reason our sisters miss meeting and events like it is nothing at all. We tell the sisters that meetings and events are mandatory, but they still do not come. It is not all the sisters, but a few. Do you have any ides about how to keep the sisters going to meetings and events?

LITP

Institute a points system with rewards at the end of each semester for attendance, etc.

Deduct points for mandatory events (if your national's allow, you can also fine).

We have fines. Each meeting and events (mandatory ones) are points and if you don't go, points are deducted. So 50 points, deducted, and extra maybe almost 50 bucks ADDED to the 625 that you pay normally (thats our dues for the year) not to mention if you live at the house, you pay rent. So basically almost all girls attend just about every mandatory meeting (you can be excused for emergencies, finals, midterms and such). I know myself I am not rich enough to be paying extra. Plus, meetings can be cool because you get to find out everything thats going on and chit chat and hang out afterwards.

Hey There! Well meeting attendance I am sure is a problem with a lot of chapters. I am on the E Board for the Theta Chi chapter and I know of a lot of chapters who have a points and rewards system that seem to work really well with their chapter. One thing we did was the E board dressed up as animals for an informal meeting and it caused a funny reaction from the chapter. They didn't understand what we were doing and when they asked us about it or ask us if we were going to do it again we would just say "Well I guess you will just have to come next week and see". It's good for a laugh and word spreads fast. Just keep your chapter guessing, meetings do have to be business oriented but they can also be fun without losing track of what needs to get done. Have fun with it. Make your sisters want to come. I hope this helps!

Too funny!

Anyways, our points system is set up in two different levels:
Mandatory Events
Points Based Events

For the points based events, ie. socials, sisterhoods, etc., we will have a set amount of points per event. If the sister does not attend, she will not get the points.

At the end of the semester, if you do not have something like 80% of the points, then you pay a certain amount of money per percentage point.

Let's say I have 75%, and I have to pay $5 per percentage point... Well then I owe $25, because I was 5 percent below the requirement.

Sisters can make up points by attending events that are "extra credit" like going to lunch with sisters, etc. (5 points for "extra credit" activities)

And if a sister does not attend a Mandatory Event, ie. recruitment, initiation, retreats, etc., then she will have to pay $25 per event.

We do let sisters miss up to two mandatory events, without paying... because we understand that sometimes you "just have to"... (all mandatory events must be on the calendar at LEAST two weeks before the event)

Anyways, that's basically what we use. (I believe the sisters from Chapman University were the ones who came up with this points system...) Hopefully it'll help.

Sorry to barge in on your board, but you might want to try a loss of voice and vote at meetings for those who do not attend manditory events without valid exuceses! It's a start! I know a lot of people would be ticked if they couldn't have their vote/voice heard when the chapter was making some big decisions like Rush themes, formal stuff, elections...etc.

Good Luck!

Smile Reply to Satina

(Hey Satina it's Sandy!)

Hi I am the Archon of the Theta Sigma chapter and like Satina said we do have attendance problem and we already do have a point system in place. Some of the girls have an "I don't care, what are you going to do about it" attitude, it makes it really hard to get them to care about the events. I think the real problem in our chapter is motivation. A lot of our girls only hang out or see each other at meetings and that too is a big problem. Our chapter grew so fast so right now are suffering from some major growing pains and I think there are trust issues between members. With the up coming year and faith in our bond, I think that the e-board members are diversified enough that we can set a good example and bring us back to the strong chapter we once were. September will be a true test for the die-hard members but I have faith we will be stronger in the end.
