This is driving me crazy
How can one get someone's name and number without that person giving it out?

They can find it everywhere on the Internet! Some are free, but if you have a private #, they actually pay some company to find it!

I've never gave out my last name online. There are probably thousands of people with my first name. What's scarier about these annoying phone calls I don't think they know me personally, the boneheads are mispronouncing my name.

Also, not only do people get information off the Internet, but they have other ways. Magazines you subscribe to, credit cards you open, etc.. sell all your info. to other companies.

No magazines subscriptions, no credit cards, no checks. I don't remember leaving anything out with may name and number on it.

Could they have gotten it through your phone company?

I have a distinct feeling that LSU sold my name/number to some lists. Same with student loan companies.

Juniorgrrl, I think you may be right. We've gotten a slew of advertisements and several (COX for example) can be traced to LSU. Now my SON is getting stuff and I'm wondering if its because he sent his ACT scores to LSU.
I'm also wondering WHY we are getting TONS of mailings from colleges he never sent scores? We get a minimum of 3 over a span of every 2 weeks.

Well you can go to www.anywho.com and type in either someone's name and get their number AND directions to their house. Or you can type in an address and get a name and number. It is a nice tool if you have a number or something on your long-distance bill that you dont recognize.
