Rush Music

OK...I did a search yesterday and didn't find what I was looking for so I'll start a new thread.

My question is...do any of you use music when the rushees are first walking in your house or meeting room for parties? I was thinking about putting together a cd of peppy songs that would get the sisters and PNM's pumped up. I just wanted to know if anyone else does this. And if you do...do you have any suggestions for good songs to include?? Thanks y'all!!!!

Allison

Yeah I have to agree with the message above, we sing songs as the girls enter the party. Also we arent even aloud to sing songs on the first night/info night, because it is a rush infraction.

OK...just to clarify. My soroity doesn't participate in formal rush. We hold our own rush after formal rush at LSU. We have sorority songs but most of the girls despise singing them...that's why I was thinking about just having a cd of fun, upbeat songs. Does anybody have any good suggestions for me now?

Here's some of my suggestions:

"Best of What's Around" by DMB

Mostly we have a CD player out during tabling. We play as many kinds of music as we can. It is tough though, because we are pretty diverse in our likes and we do not want to overdue it with one particular type. We actually try to keep it quiet, just so we can talk to guys and not scare them away with listening to one type of music. But at parties, it is whatever is the theme for the night.

There are always songs when they come in. Sometimes we sing them, but also there is the obligatory "We are Family" (We are Delta Z). We always make up different words to existing songs too. Like several years ago we had a song called "DZ Bus" that went along with "Venga Bus", we have done Nelly's Country Grammar "I'm goin' DZ baby, don't you wanna be me, boom boom way oh, ready to let it go. Shimmy shimmy coco puff, listen to me now. Roll me up a bid day shirt and pass it to me now" (okay, that was NOT my favorite...). We did a DZ Smashmouth song like in 1999 or something and we did Ricky Martin called "She's a Delta Zeta" instead of "Livin' la Vida Loca". We just take the vocal track out of a song and so all you hear is the accompaniment. Then we sing to it with our customized words. Everyone always likes it.

EDIT: Keep in mind...you should keep the songs current...by no means use Ricky Martin now!

Last year my house used the "Perfect Day" song from Legally Blonde - I don't know who it's by, but it's fairly upbeat. I don't know how current it is though...
