Recruitment

I was just curious as to when recruitment started for everyone, what your quota is, how many other houses at your school, etc

Our work week/move in day starts August 4th. So I only have 2 more weeks of summer left!! We start rush on August 14th(round 1). The 15th is round 1 also, 16th round 2, 17th round 3, 18th prefs, and 19th bid day(also the 1st day of school).

We have 17 other houses besides us which is why round 1 is 2 days. Round 2 used to be 2 days but they have shortened it this year.

Last year our quota was 52 but i think its going to be closer to 60 this year. We have gotten the national release figure guru to do special numbers this year in order to decrease the number of drop outs and mismatches. Everyone who ranks all three houses they just went to after prefs is guaranteed a bid in at at least one of those houses, as long as they ranked all three.

Anyway, just curious about everyone else's upcoming recruitment. :-)

Jill

Good luck with recruitment!

When I was in college, our formal rush (as we called it back then ) took place in the spring semester and lasted two weeks. Quota was usually 32. There were seven sororities including one local which has since closed. I'm not sure how much has changed over the last few years.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Our rush retreat is the 1st weekend after we go back to school (I believe the 7th of sept or something like that). Recruitment starts on Sept 14th and runs for about 2weeks alternating between wednesdays and saturdays. Don't know what quota will be - it's normally about 12-15, just depends on how many girls see recruitment through. We have 7 international sororities on our campus.

My chapter's recruitment isn't till like the middle of September or something. It's informal (formal!) recruitment. That means you do the rounds of parties, but there's no quota or bid matching. It's a total pain in the ass, but I think it'll be ok. The colony I advise, their recruitment is September 5-9 or something like that, and we're going there for a work weekend in August. Should be fun! Good luck Jill! I know Danielle has good things in store for you all

At FIU (Miami) our "Formal Fall Recruitement" begins on Sept 17th and last to Sept 21st. There are 6 other National Sororities on campus, and although quota has never really been a large number (usually 20) this year quota seems like it might reach the mid 30's (which is HUGE for our school). We are really excited about rush this year...but are terrified at the idea of getting TWINS!! LOL
*Good Luck Ladies!!*

Rush for Eta starts on Sept 19 and ends on the 25. Its formal and quota is usually somewhere around 15-20. Our ceiling is set at 60. I think that our school's Greek System had the best year ever this past year and I am looking forward to such a strong formal recruitment. (Even if some people believe rush will suffer from MTV's "Sorority Life.") I am psyched and so is my chapter! Everyone remember to post how we all did in our respective rushes!

I really don't think anything is going to suffer from Sorority Life, I'm amazed at what a big deal people are making out of it on the general greek forum - and I really feel sorry for the chapter in general.

And wow, you guys have really big chapters - when I was in school we only had 3 panhel organizations on campus, in fact panhel just started on my campus the semester after I went over.

Greek life there is much smaller I think than at most schools....we didn't even have houses at the time, athough when I went back for alumnae weekend there were several off campus houses for some of the greeks, including D Phi E. That was really nice to see.

Sorority Life

I don't think Sorority Life will have a negative effect on recruitment. Honestly, I think it may help! I doubt many women who already know they want to go through rush will see it and think, oh my god, I'm not doing that!! I think if anything, it may encourage some girls to take a closer look at greek life, and that's good no matter what!

I agree, and quite frankly I'm getting so tired of seeing the bashing in the other forums. It's really easy to make judgments when you're not sitting in the shoes of the girls making the decisions.

And yes, I think if anything it will encourage enrollment. Of course it's possible that young girls are getting a skewed view of what pledging is about, but that'll change fast enough

I agree that Sorority Life probably won't hurt and might help with recruitment.
