Sigma benefits

Hey Sorhors

Many times you hear people talking about the wonderful benefits of joining an organization. What have been some of your benefits specifically tailored to Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority,Inc. ?????

*** Too be such a small organization I never feel alone and I never run out of someone to talk too***

Thumbs up

Well I would just like to say that for people to always bring up the fact that we are small is seriously overrated! Every time I turn around I'm running into a new sorhor! Anyway getting back to the question at hand, I must say that sorhors are always helpful, extremely friendly, will give you the nalia off their backs, everytime I run into a sorhor it's as if we are flesh and blood. I just found out that there are three of us (Sigma Gamma Rhos at Carl Sandburg Middle School!) and we all have already formed a close bond in just these 2 short weeks of the session. I have a lot of nalia on my car such as the tags, a car sticker in the back window (Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority), a small paddle in the front and sorority hat in the back of the window board and sorhors are always pulling me over and exchanging information. I do wear the nalia in the malls, at the movies or just any casual events and I usually end up getting something free from a sorhor or just adding a new name and face to my address book. It really is nice to also know that at any given time I stay at their house for free and vice versa, or they are willing to pick me up from a train station or airport or just take me around and show me all of the nice spots in the area. That is what happened to me when I moved to Alexandria, Va. five of the sorhors spent about two weeks taking and showing me around all of the different areas in the Greater Washington I have been given different summer job opportunities when I was an undergraduate and as a graduate sorhor and the list goes on and on! We do it because we are an extended family and we have that great bond of this wonderful sisterhood!

Thanks for listening!

i would have to say that one of the many things i relish about being a woman of SIMGA GAMMA RHO sorority is that my INDIVIDUALITY really has a chance to shine through; there really aren't any stereotypes and molds i have to fit into... and all the negative things that may be say about the organization, i feel that i disprove in a MAJOR way. i think that SIGMA is the kinds of sorority that takes you in as you are, appreciates you for who you are, and then gives you room to grow even more as an individual. SIGMA GAMMA RHO doesn't make great women, great women make SIGMA GAMMA RHO! that idea is underscored by the sorority and being who i am is just enought; in SIGMA, there is always room for someone just like me(and you!)

also, because we are a smaller organization by comparison, we don't always tend to see 40 sorors a day riding down the street with an SGRho tag on her car...BUT whenever i have had the pleasure of meeting a soror by happenstance, the love and sense of connection that i feel makes the experience EVEN MORE SPECIAL; i love that close knit feeling.

in addition to that, people tend to look down on SIMGA GAMMA RHO because we are smaller by comparison and recieve less notoriety, BUT i will say this: having to constantly prove yourself as a SIGMA woman takes a lot of COURAGE and it has only made me stronger! anyone can be strong when there are 30 sorors on campus, but it takes an even STRONGER soRHOr to rep even when she is the ONLY sorors on campus or when there are only a few on campus-- and i see many sorors doing this in our organization! because we aren't what many women do for the sake of numbers or popularity, i feel that as a SIMGA WOMAN, i have set myself apart! i could go on... and on... and on...

SoRHOr bluethunder, I totally feel you on the individuality. Sorors tease me about the bright red hair, but no one dogs me out for my choice. I'm always allowed to be my colorful self.

There are so many benefits of being a Sigma, but my favorite is meeting a soror and knowing her heart right away. It takes a special woman to be a Sigma, and that connection is automatic from the first hug.
