Overdue Dues

Hey girls...My name is Amy and I have a simple question. I went to BSU for almost a year and hated it so I withdrew. I was, however, active when I withdrew. I may be going back there due to other circumstances, but it won't be for another year or so. I have been told that if I don't pay up whatever I owe by the end of the first week of fall 2002 semester, SK will send a collection agency after me and permanatly kick me out...what's the deal?? After I pay that, I've been told I'll be alum...so...if I do that and then a year down the road go back to BSU or to go another univ. with a SK chapter, can I once again be active?? Help!!! lol

Hi there.

I wish I could answer your question. However, I wanted to reply b/c I know that financial business can be messy and stressful. May I suggest that you write Nationals and see what they say. I personally feel that that will be the only way to get a proper, truthful answer. Nationals is pretty good about replying. Simply go to our National webpage and send them an email.

As long as you pay the money you owe to the chapter by their requested date you should be fine (otherwise they can expell you ). This will show that you left the chapter while still in good standing. Because you will be out of school, you will take alum status but if you chose to come back to the chapter or decide to go to another chapter your active status can be reinstated. I think it just takes a chapter vote and some paperwork.
Like shopgirl suggested, get in touch with someone at Nationals they are really cool ladies and they know their stuff. If you're not sure who to e-mail just calll NHQ and tell the secretary who answers the phone your situation and she should be able to direct you to the correct person. I also believe that once you pay up what you owe by the chapters due date and become an alum in good standing that if you go to another chapter they have to vote you in. Just because you were a SK at another chapter does not make you an automatic member of another chapter when you transfer to that school.

I always thought this was a little strange. I mean, once you are a Sigma Kappa, you are a Sigma Kappa. I think we should always be welcomed at any given chapter.

Does anyone else agree? Or am I crazy?

i agree...how can you like BE a sister, but then not be a sister at another chapter until youre voted in?

OK, HI Amy!!!!! So here is the deal with our chapter, you need to pay the $ by the spec. date, dand if you actually come back here with in a year, you can be voted back into an active member (a complete year has to pass for you to be an alum) Love ya lots!!!!!

two erin rae girls go round the outside, round the outside, round the outside... what up girl?? anyways, i know that, but i dont know what the date is because i never got the email that was supposedly sent to me....the only way i know anything about this is because someoen else told me that i was supposed to have gotten the email *sigh*

and its not like i wasnt goign to pay... TD told me it'd be easier to pay before the end of the semester and i coudlnt squeak it out by then, so i figured that it'd be easier to wati till school was back in instead of trying to send it in the summer and getting it lost, ya know? ... anyhow, i dont have anyones emails or addresses, so if you could hook me up with ann's email or tricia's, thatd be gravy... im still using DIGITALANGEL1260@yahoo.com , so just send it there...
