Being Afraid on the 4th of July?
With all the news about possible terrorist attacks in the future(especially since the 4th of July is coming up), is anyone afraid that there will be an attack or are changing their plans out of fear? But then again, if we do change our plans because we're afraid something is going to happen, we let the terrorists win...

Im so glad someone else mentioned this! I am pretty scared for the 4th, I wonder if people will be closing down and not having fireworks.
*sigh*
What a world we live in....
Im not even going to start in on the whole "what a bomb does to the environment" thing...

Nope, not changing my plans. It's mainly because I realize the possibility of an act(s) of terrorism on July 4 is the same as it will be July 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9....
I'll admit I was a little worried about my family in NYC doing their 4th of July thing, but they're not letting the events of September 11 stop their festivities (BBQ, etc). And, I know the people of Las Vegas are continuing their July 4th celebration despite the possibility of a terrorist act there.

I'm looking forward to my July 4 plans.....my husband and I are going to Dallas to see his brother for the weekend! We can't wait.....parties, sun, bbq's.....and best of all (for me anyway!)......four days of no classes! Yaaaaaay!
I have been thinking if an attack would happen.......
I hope nothing does though.....here's hoping for a stress-free, amazing July 4 for y'all!
And for all my fellow Canadians too.....here's hoping for a wicked good Canada Day (July 1). I'm having a celebration for 2 here at my place.....which includes hanging my Canada flag off my patio balcony all day long!

Haven't thought about it and don't want to.
I will continue living my life the way I did before, without fear. At any time we can lose our life for millions of reasons. You have to embrace life.

Just live life to the fullest, and keep your mind clear of the impurities of life.
At any day and time, you could be taken from your loved ones, friends and others by any number of ways. That is just something that shouldn't even be thought about. I know it's hard when talking about a possible terrorist attack, but if you live life in fear all the time, is that truly living?
I just relate it to the fact of being killed in a car accident, a housefire or something else. I don't worry about it and try not to think about it, it's not worth the stress and pain.

Nope, not changing my plans. Why should I? Terrorism is intended to scare the residents of an area so much that they don't do the things they normally intend to or plan to. I'm not using this holiday as the only example, but we've seen so many other examples of people not doing things they've planned (ie, visiting countries NOT considered terrorist threats, going to malls, etc), it's like letting the terrorists win. And I refuse to do that.

That kind of fear is something you simply can't let limit your life.
I was stranded in Lincoln, NE on 9/11, and would have given a LOT to get on an airplane and get home that afternoon. (Not that I have anything against Lincoln, it's a nice town, but I didn't have much to do there for the next four days until I caught a Greyhound out) That's another grim story.
In reality, even if there is an attack, the chances of any individual being involved is minute -- as in tiny. It's like flying (or even driving, which is statistically more dangerous than flying). Sure, some people are killed in airplane crashes, but considering the number of people who fly daily, the percentages are so much in your favor, I just won't allow myself to worry about it.
As an aside, I don't think we'll have too many fireworks here in the Inter-Mountain West and the Southwest because of the wildfire danger. Although the big commercial displays haven't been banned, many have been cancelled.

Good call!
But, for those that are worried, I would stay away from touristy places like the Statue of Liberty, Liberty Bell, Mall of America (they seem to think this could be a target).

Being Afraid on the 4th of July?
The only that I'm afraid of on the 4th is my dad trying to grill! LOL ! The moment we take the time to put a halt to our lives for others, they've won! Enjoy your life for every moment it's worth! Let them ponder where they are going to get their next meal!
Happy July 4th!!

Not changing my plans one bit. I'm going to grill with the guys, have a couple of beers, and go watch the fireworks over the Charles River (being in Boston for the 4th is awesome).
I won't let anything affect the way I live my day-to-day life. I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing, and have fun doing it.

... and if I make any money next week, I'll see you there.
You can go any time - look at the Darryl Kile thread, for instance. Do what you have to do.

I'm not scared of the terrorist attacks. I'll be along the Charles for the fourth too. Boston really is a great city on the Fourth of July.
