formal dresses
i was just wondering what do you girls do about formal dresses for your sorority/fraternity dance: do you wear your high school ones, borrow a sister's or friend's, or go out and buy a new one? also do you guys know of any shop or website that sells nice dresses for a discounted price? i only bought one formal dress in college, the rest of the time i borrowed from a high school friend who felt the need to buy a new dress for every high school dance.

I've never spent an arm and a leg for any of the dresses for my formals. For my first formal I recycled my old senior prom dress because I could still fit in it...but after that it was all about Ross and Sears. I don't think it's really necessary IMO to spend more than a hundred bucks on a formal dress.
Last semester the dry cleaners lost the dress I was going to use... so luckily it was Macy's to the rescue! $59 was a great deal!

i've bought 2 dresses in my college time - but toghether they've cost me about 100 dollars (not bad!) usually we just switch off, and wear old high school dresses - i have one more formal, and if i still fit into it, i plan on wearing my junior prom dress. if i don't fit, i'm gonna borrow a dress.
but my college is a little different - we still have a homecoming dance (like in high school!) so we get dressed up twice a year
also at my school, there is only one formal per org. per year - some are in the fall, some in the spring. and no one here has a semi-formal.
just how we do things

i usually buy new ones for sapphire ball, our spring formal and borrow for the fall semi-formal. foramals are jus really expensive all together! but fress shopping is the one thing that gets me the most excited!!! i personally dont spend more than $100 dollars on dresses but a few of my sisters spend a rediculous amount...like the one who bought a $300 nicole miller!!! and i betcha she will never wear it again...goo thing we are close to the same size

I used the dress I prefed in for our formal. It's strapless, black with silver sparkles in lines on it. For Pref Night I wore a black cardigan over it to make it more demure, but it worked well for formal also! I got it at Wet Seal for only $35!! I love finding dresses that cheap!

I have hit the after-prom sales and bought a couple dresses for under $25. I just throw it in my closet until our Formal in December.
A lot of the girls in my sorority borrow each others dresses from previous years. We used to have a closet at the sorority house that was first come, first serve. All you had to do was make sure that the dress was clean before you put it back in there.

Can I just say that I wish I were in college now, cuz I am much more self assured and have a much better body and would love to go to a formal now! I bought this KICKA$$ dress for New Year's and I would have had the wolves howling at me, baby! Aww well Guess I'll just have to make the men I know now weep with delight!!
