Question Who can rush?

I did not have an opportunity to rush as an undergraduate, but am interested in what the Greek life has to offer. Are graduate students eligible to rush?

It depends on what organization you want to join. I know that in my Sorority- Delta Sigma Theta, membership into a graduate chapter is by invitation only.

Hopeful,

I would sugguest you contact the Greek Life or Greek Affairs office at the University that you will be attending grad school. The advisors and staff normally can give you an idea of what is availble to graduate students. If you search Greek Chat archives, I believe a few sisters from various sisterhoods have commented on if their sorority extends bids/rushes graduate students. My sorority does accept graduate students.

Do consider what kind of time commitment that you can contribute to a sorority as a grad student. I wish you the best of luck!

Jennifer

Hopeful -

I believe all 26 members of the National Panhellenic Conference require new members to be undergraduates. Most of the groups, however, do have alumnae or special initiate programs.

The NPHC sororities (Delta Sigma Theta, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sigma Gamma Rho, Zeta Phi Beta) also have graduate chapters but I believe membership is by invitation only and you have to be recommended by a member in good standing. You would need to speak with a member of these organizations to find out specifics.

If you have to go around telling everyone you're in charge you're not much of a leader.
