Thumbs down

This was my first time going to KAOS and.....it wasn't all that great. Sigmas, Alphas, Ques, AKAs and Deltas stepped. Ques and AKAs won. The music was horrible...people just stood around watching people stroll. It was not worth my $20 (I wasn't told til after the fact that I coulda got a greek discount ) However, it was nice meeting Fam from all over!!!

KAOS Stepshow Review

Greetings all,

This also was my first time going to KAOS, but from past experiences I come not to expect alot from stepshows. The venue for the event was the the glorious and magnificient De La Salle lnstitute (High School)...did I mention this is my alma mater . So while most people wasted 20 big ones.I knew better and used my alumni hookup to slide through the backdoor.

Now to the show....

For the Frats:

The Alphas from U of I stepped first and this being a A-PHI-A show I knew they would be deep, but I also thought they would have a good team. On the latter I was sadly mistaken! They where so uncoordinated it was ridiculous! I dont know what was going on..but to be brutally honest they where terrible. How do you mess up the Alpha Train? Isn't that like the first step they teach you?

The Sigma team stepped next they where decent..I'm not sure where they were from. They started out their show with doing the dance moves from Usher's "You dont have to call" video, including acting like they where driving and then doing that little bounce thing. That was cool but when it came to stepping they where just okay. Half through their show they stripped down to blue "wife-beaters" but they had some big boys one who should been revealing all that stomach and the other I guess they just couldn't a shirt in his size so he rocked a PBS t-shirt. I'm a stickler for uniformity in shows so if they didn't all look the same they should chose something else. Other than that their show to me was alright, except for the fact that the white gloves they put on took away from the sound of the hand claps which could have made the sound level a lil better.

Finally the Omegas from U of Michigan stepped..and as unusual as it is to see Ques step when I'm up north..its even more unusal to see a Que team that is tight. I must admit the Omegas did a good job they were in sync and enthusiatic. That lil roll/flip chain thing was tight as all get out and I had to give props for that..they over did a lil bit but nonethe less it was tight. A well deserved win for them. Although I thought all would break loose when they played atomic dog on stage..but it sure did at the end of the show.

Isn't that like the first step they teach you? I still cheered though because my guy Emanuel that I knew back in elementary school was up there so I couldn't boo old classmates.

The Sigma team stepped next they where decent..I'm not sure where they were from. As far sororities...

The Deltas that stepped had a nice number of members on stage the energy was seriously lacking. All their steps looked slow motion to me and the seemed like they was trying too hard. I particularly was not feeling them.

The AKA team that stepped was tight. When I first saw them take the stage I was lil skeptical, and they had that corny basketball song by lil romeo playing in the background. But they was precise, hype and pretty And why is it that in almost every show I go to AKAs always hit Alphas steps better than most Alphas do? I'm not hating just a observation I've made from seeing shows from every coast in the country. The also deserved their win without a doubt. Maybe more teams would have promoted tougher competition.

As a few side notes.. The Greek musical chairs was hilarious...especially when that Kappa tackled that Alpha to the ground and stole the chair and when the Alpha snacthed the chair from right under that AKA.

I was happy to see all greeks representing in good numbers and no beefs or fights broke out (as far as I know). But there where very few IOTAS where was they at? I-PHI-T is usually deep in Chicago I wonder where they was at? Even the Betas was reppin in nice numbers.

ONLY IN CHICAGO will in the middle of stepshow will the team through on some ghetto booty house music and get their juke on right in the middle of the stage. Can't get that down south!!

Speaking of juking and footwork..I did not know that House Arrest 2 still existed? Man that took me back to grammar school and early high school when peeps used to envy House-o-matics, Phase 2, K-Phi-9 and U-Phi-U!! HA2 did their thing and they was working it out their set was a lil long though.

I didn't stay for the party for one because it was entirely too loud my ears was dying.

Well thats my commentary I know it was pretty long..but I had to give the play-by-play of show. Any opinions please feel free to comment.

Also DOVE1920..I think I saw you..I know I peeped a Zeta jacket with the chapter Alpha Alpha on the sleeve..wasn't sure if it was you or not.

I attended KAOS and was a judge to be exact. What you guys may have heard in your seats was different from what we heard at the table. Because of the accustics in the gym (WHICH WERE HORRIBLE) There were things the audience missed in each of the shows. Here were my observations as a judge:

Alpha's: The concept was VERY GOOD. What many of you may not have heard was that the theme of thier show was "Balance". After every step they talked about how an Alpha man can get in balance. Not to mention people who are not faithful Playstation and Tekken players may not have appreciated the whole rocking in a circle thing. OVERALL I thought thier step were really good. However, there were moments in the show where all the team memebers were not on point. BUT in all I thought thieir show was pretty good and they had a THEME and stuck with it.

Sigmas: I thought the Sigma show could have been better. There were too many of them who were not precise. And THAT is what i look for in a show. There were a lot of them that were "fudging" the steps. Perhaps it was fatigue. I DONOT care to have a "Strip" moment in ANYSHOW (no matter what Fraternity) I felt like they took 2 minutes to take off shirts that could have been used to win the show with steps. And the comment about the outfits was right. If everyone cant wear wife beaters then noone should have.

Omegas: Thier show was great. They had uniformity and precision. They had the enthusiasm. they had the better show hands down.

OK NOW THE SORORITIES...(I am going to try to be as impartial as possible)

AKA's: When the AKA's came out with the corny Lil Bow Wow song i was like........ok that was boring. I think your opeing to any show should grab the audience from the beginning and it just didn't stick well with me. The other thing that kinda turned me off was the fact that thet had "1half", then "2nd half" and then a HALTIME and then a TIMEOUT "WHAT THA FA??????" But ok i got past that. OVERALL thier precision was ON! They got my vote in that category. However thier enthusiasm was lacking. They bored me to death.

DST: Ok these are my sorors and I am not afraid at all to be honest. I thought my sorors energy level was great. I felt like their energy level was up to par and they had pretty good steps. However from a judging point of view, some of the steppers didn't know how to cover mistakes and so it made the little mistakes a little more obvious. Aside from the fact that thier music was messed up in the DJ booth thier show could have won withthe addition of perhaps one more step to add length to thier show.

KAOS: Overall the accustics were horrible along with the DJ. Thier were too many lines of Greek strolling and it was too damn dark! Perhaps it is just my age showing........
