Earthquake last night
Did any of you feel the earthquake last night? I did. I was at school working in the computer lab {on GC of course } . I had my headphones on so I had tuned every thing out. I felt the 1st shake and then about 3 seconds later the second shake came. my fellow students looked confused. I grew up here in San Fran so I grabbed my stuff and headed straight for the stairs. It took me approx. 15 seconds to get from the 4th floor to the 1st. I remember as I was cruising down the stairs quite swiftly, there were 4 guys in front of me and 3 behind. I was the only girl and for a second I thought I might be at the front of that line I was going so fast.
The quake registered a 5.2 (it was a medium size one)
Being that my school is in the downtown area of San Francisco, I didn't want to be around any falling rubble if it got to be that bad. I walked to my bike, and cut out of there. What normally takes me 20-30 mins to get home, only took me 15. Can you say scared sh*tless?

Hey fellow San Fran GCer!
Yes, wasn't last night's earthquake interesting? First, I saw my lamp shaking, which I thought was really weird...then the rolls came on in. When it finally registered in my head to get under the table, the earthquake kept on shaking. Last night's was a very long one, compared to those in the past few years! Supposedly, it's the most "major" earthquake after the one of '89.
Hopefully there will be no Big One anytime soon (or ever...but that's an irrational wish).
Take care!
Glad to know I'm not the only one from SF on GC!

Hi again!
Just wanted to say that I've walked by your school many a times before, and I know what you mean about the downtown section! I absolutely LOVE downtown San Fran, but wouldn't want to be there when an earthquake hit!
Stay safe!

Yes, I hope there's no "Big One" any time soon either. Just out of curiosity, what part of the city were you in? I kept hearing on the news that it was felt mostly in the Castro and Twin Peaks areas and of course, all down the peninsula.

Hey All...
I'm in Palo Alto, and we really felt it here! It was so weird...like a rolling kind of thing...I thought someone was moving something heavy, but then it happened again and I thought, "it's an earthquake!". I'm sorry, those are NOT fun, no matter how small they are!!!

is it just me, or do earthquakes seem to be getting longer and longer?
i've lived in so cal for 15 years and in 87 they seemed so quick. But since the 89 SF one -- which I felt sitting on the floor of my room in the USC Chi O house (felt like a 5.0 ish one down here) -- and esp since the 94 Northridge quake, they've been loooong, even the small ones.
My first quake was the 87 whittier narrows one.
I will take an EQ over winter, hurricane, tornado, etc any day, but I still don't like em!!!
Hang in there San Franciscans! You inhabit my favorite city in the world!

I didn't feel it, lol- I go to school in San Diego, but I'm from San Francisco I was watching the Giants game on T.V. and they kept talking about some earthquake- I just figured my parents would've called if it was major (lol, anything less than a 7.0 is nothing for those who were there in '89 hope everybody didn't get too freaked out, and I heard it was centered in gilroy.
