Thumbs up ****roll Calll********

HI SIGMA KAPPA SISTERS!! I FEEL THAT THERE IS ENOUGH SIG KAPS ON GC THAT WE NEED TO HAVE A ROLL CALL. I KNOW A LOT OF OTHER FORUMS DO HAVE THIS AND IT IS ON TOP OF THEIR THREADS LIST. SO WHY WONT WE START ONE? QUESTIONS LIKE

1. WHAT SCHOOL DID YOU GET INTIATED AT AND WHAT YEAR?

2. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SIGMA KAPPA?

3. WHAT DID YOUR FIRST SET OF LETTERS LOOK LIKE?

4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY OF RUSH AND WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY SINCE THEN?
And any other stuff you would like to talk about. ill go first
1. theta eta chapter of university of nevada las vegas, psi class of fall o1'
2. i chose sigma kappa, because there are only five sororities at my school(agd, adpi, azd,dz,and sk) and b4 i went to rush i wanted to be a dz, but i fell in love with sk sisters. sk was the laid back girls who could still have a good time and i loved how our philanthropy was the only sorority who branched out and helped the old folks in our community.

3. my first set of letters was gven to me right after intiationby my big. it was a black baby-t with pink letters and a yellow backround(kind of weird, but i loved them) and the first set i bought was a blue t-shirt with a flag print on the letters and a white t-shirt with a red hawaiian print(which i bought at violet boutique)

4. my favorite memory of rush was pref. my soon to be sisters wore black and a girl started reading a inspirational speech about another sister. i started to cry cuz i knew i felt at home with these girls and ther sisterhood was genuine. then at the end they sang "all greeks say...." and tears just rolled out of my eyes. from that point on i knew i wanted to have sk on the top of my list!

sorry im not finished yet...
ok my favorite memory since then was the night we had a sisterhood sleepover and serenades the same night. so all of us brought snacks to give to the boys and i brought cookies. we made little bags of goodies for them and i was in charge to offer it to them when they were done serenading us. so the movie corkie romano just came out and i had the idea to say a line he says in the movie. so after the guys were done singing i would stand up and say"would you giys like some cookies?" and i would say that over and over again, but everytime someone has cookies or someone offers cookies, my sisters always want me to say that line! i could never live it down!!!

Chapter:Theta Chapter: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign: Spring 1999

Why SK?: I chose Sigma Kappa because they were so sweet and I had the feeling that the girls were so much like people who I would be friends with. You know the, "wow, I would so be best friends with that girl, that girl is so funny, that girl is so cool, that one is..." The diversity was amazing! We have someone that fits most any personality.

First letters: white with baby blue rings (ringer tee) with Sigma Kappa embroidered across the front in lower case for sisterhood. First letters from my family was a grey blue short sleeve tee with blue plaid.

Favorite other memory: Early breakfast with the mom's after I had just pulled an all nighter to get my education portfolio done. Serenades are WAY up there too!

Chapter Zeta Omicron, The University of Arizona

Why SK? The biggest reason I chose Sigma Kappa was because I really felt wanted there. I feel like they chose me.

First Letters I don't remember. I don't think I had that special moment, I'm sorry to say. I remember that on Bid Day we were given all kinds of SK goodies, in particular a big cup with our letters on it. I kept it on my counter where I could always see it. I would glance at it every now and then and think, "Wow, I'm a member of a sorority, I'm a Sigma Kappa." I know that sounds a little silly, but I was so thrilled to be a part of the Greek System and that Sigma Kappa was MY sorority.

Favorite Rush Memory Pref night. I loved it when they held candles, introduced us, and sang. It was really beautiful.

Talking Roll Call Sha Boom Sha Boom

Okay first of all I was so excited to see this post because I am Gamma Chi/Rho Chi this year! Yay. Super Fun! But here is my little stories to share.
Chapter: Alpha Delta, University of Tennessee initiated fall 2000

Why SK: I just felt the most comfortable in the suite from the moment I first walked in.

First Letters: Well we got those cute little bid day packages on bid day, and it was decorated with some SK ribbion and I took it off my little basket and wore it as a hair ribbon. I guess those were my first letters, ghetto fab I know. That or the SK butt shorts my big gave me.

Fav. Rush Memory: Opening up my bid on bid day and seeing the Sigma Kappa crest on the front of the card. I started screaming and jumping up and down. It was very exciting!

Fav. Mem: There are way too many to chose just one, but some of the big ones have been finding out I was a Gamma Chi with my best friend Kim, getting my little sister, homecoming, and just the little moments that make being in a sorority special.

Why SK - I love these girls so much, and it was the only house were I felt right at home and where I could be myself.

First Letters - before big/ little revealing(aka shoe hunt for the other beta taus) i got a white shirt with letters in our family fabric (a dark color with purple and yellow butterflies)

Favorite Rush Mem - well, i dropped out of rush :-) so I dont really have one

Fave memory - playing "never have I ever" with my new sisters, a day after I got my bid! insanity! and initiation, which was beautiful.

Chapter: Alpha Gamma, Washington State University, fall '98

I chose Sigma Kappa because: the moment I walked in, it felt like I was home, and everyone in teh Chapter house was so happy and genuinly excited to see me there. I chose it again (reaffiliation) for those same reasons. I'm coming home!!

First letters: I guess the first letters (not blocks) were gotten out of an old letter closet so we would have somehting to wear on letter day (wed.) and it was this huge red tank top with Sigma Kappa Bid day 97 on it, and a hunter green tshirt with Washington State and SK where the size (XL, L) goes right under it. I didn't get my first blocks until about 6 months later, and I bought them from some guy who stopped by the house selling SK letter stuff. It was a white tshirt with this green and yellow flower pattern for the letters.. hideous, but hey, I had blocks. (I'm getting new ones made this summer!)

Fav. Rush Memory: I never went thru formal, but gettting a girl I knew in one of my classes to rush, then pledge and become my little sis has to top that list. It made me feel great to know I was the reason she joined!

Fav. Memory: Either Inspo week (I loved all the gifts!) Big sis/lil/sis revealing, both mine and my lil's, or the last sisterhood I went to. One of the girls from the year I had been there said that when she heard I was coming to the sisterhood that night, she went all over the house telling everyone how excited she was that I was coming, and then told me that she was so glad I had come back and she hoped it was to stay. Then of course we both cried, but that was when I decided to come back. It feels so great to know that your sisters truly care about you and it matters to them what happens to you.

California State University, Long Beach, Gamma Theta chapter, 2000, Alpha Zeta class.

Choosing a house was very tough for me. I am a double in-house legacy to two different chapters at CSULB, Alpha Phi and Delta Delta Delta. In addition to that, my best friend who pledged a year before me is a Delta Gamma. On pref night, I had a really tough choice between Sigma Kappa and Delta Gamma (my best friend preffed me at DG) But something that the girl who preffed me at Sigma Kappa said really stuck with me. She told me to go where my heart took me. And it took me to Sigma Kappa. Boy did I have fun later explaining to my family why I didn't go Tri-Delta or Alpha Phi.

My first set of letters was a black three-quarter sleeved Johnny collar shirt that had SK Lil Sis embroidered on it. My first sweatshirt was one that my big gave me at initiation which was our house letters, a grey sweatshirt with white letters and violet embroidery.

Fav Rush Memory: Our advisors sneaking "interesting" pictures into our folders after one of the parties! If you want to know more, PM me. We were just starting to get tired, but those sure woke us up.

Fav. Memory: I would say it is a tie between big sis revealing and initiation. Big sis revealing was such a cool night, and initiation was just so beautiful.

Love in the Dove,
Andria

Where: Penn State-Theta Psi!! Fall 2000

Why: I was all set to go with another sorority, but then pref night rolled around and the girls were genuinely nice to each other. They all knew each other, and the senior speech was so moving the sisters were bawling and they each turned to whoever was around for comfort-it didn't seem to matter who it was. To this day, IMHO, we have the closest, most genuine sisterhood on campus...I couldn't have asked for anything else!

First set of block letters: I got 2 sets during big/little week...one was a white t-shirt with fabric letters that had a white background and red polka dots. The other (my fav!) was a hunter green t-shirt w/ fabric letters. They were on a hunter green background with yellow and white daisies.

Fav rush memory: I really didn't like anyone in my rush group and I didn't like my rho chis. My fav. rush memory was probably running to a sorority 2nd rounds (not SK though ). I was late and sweating and disgusting. I felt so bad because I really liked this sorority and just KNEW it would be my last time there. The girl who took me in was SO nice, but I figured it was just a front. Well...I ended up preffing there and they were my 1st choice...until I went to SK

Fav memory since then: Everything! The crazy weekend nights, getting ourselves into trouble, and recapping the next day over brunch are always great!

Hey ladies!!

Im a sister from BH chapter at Umass Amherst :-)
ROCK ON FALL 2001!

Lets see I choose Sigma Kappa ... well cause they are the best darn girls in the USA! They were really nice and I felt confortable and welcome in their chapter

My first set of letters ... Yea they were my family letter ... grey long sleeve T with maroon letters on the front YAY FAMILY LETTERS!

Favorite memory of rush ... Well I dont really remember much ... not that it was that long ago, but I think it was when my sister Marlena was pref-ing me. I was so happy :-)
My favorite memory after that was going on this BRUTLE hike up this steep mountain road. YEA MICHELLE!! It was really dark (yea like midnight) but it was so pretty to see all the stars and streetlights when we got to the top!

Hello-
I am writing in from the now dormant chapter of Theta Omicron- at Arizona State University.
I chose Sigma Kappa, because they were a 'medium-size' house, and everyone seemed like they actually liked and knew each other. Here at AZ state w/ 44,000 people, its easy to get lost along the way as a #, and I didn't want that- so I chose a SK because they were more close and a lot of fun. + We were solid in many areas. They had just received a proclamation, proclaiming out founders day as SK day in the city of Tempe, because of SK's outstanding community service (the only sorority to get that), and there was so much diversity- girls on sports teams, honors college, and one of my best friends who was deaf. As I've been here for 3 years, I still believe that we have one of the strongest sisterhoods, and we had still been receiving awards when we were closed down.
We never really had block- letter tees (not a big thing at our campus)- But, my first letters came on my bid day t-shirt- "Should've been a Sigma K!"
I didn't like Rush, it was SOOO Long! And as funny as it was, SK wasn't my first choice, until Pref. night. I had preffed some larger houses, where I thought I'd be, but I had such a touching pref. night at SK, and I felt that I connected so much, that I knew it was where I wanted to be.
I have had so many great memories, especially getting my little sis, who is still so precious to me. Painting the A was always a favorite, so was our last formal.
Worst memories- ones that I hope that no one will ever have to experience: Watching your whole chapter cry their eyes out as you all have to go through Order together. Also, going through Order with my sorority mom, when its before your time. Also, on another level- having our campus rule out Fraternity blowouts, being told by nationals that black & white formals and having sorority moms & dots is considered hazing (even when other SK chapters still can do it). Basically- being a scapegoat chapter sucks when you try everything to do (and win awards in the process) to be a model chapter.

I am from the Zeta Alpha chapter at Indiana University Southeast Fall 2000 Beta Alpha class.

Sigma Kappa were the most geniune girls at rush. They did not put up a front with me. I asked questions and got straight anwsers, they didn't dance around my questions. They were intested in me, and I was so into them.

I guess it was more the words, SIGMA KAPPA on the front in pink and lavander, on the back it said "If your going to go greek why not be a goddess?"

My favorite memory of rush was that I did not have any intentions of going back the second night. I just wanted to see what rush was all about. The whole sorority thing was not for me, at least I thought it wasn't So on my second night of rush I told all the sororities that I wasn't coming back to pref, because i made my mind up that sororities weren't for me. But when I went into the SK party, knew a girl that I had class with the semester before and she was the one that I ended up talking to the whole time. Now I call her my best friend she is so great

My favorite memory, this is the funniest story. I was on the phone when one of my pledge sister (who I am so close with) calls me. She asks me what I am doing? Which I was talking to a guy on the other line She asks me if I can do her and her roommate (who is also a Sigma Kappa) a favor? I guess you can call me the person who will bend of backwards for anyone. So I said sure what is it? She asks if I can bring her and her roommate some gas they ran out I said sure where are you guys? On the highway blocking traffic! I didn't believe her until I arrived and saw all the traffic and them sitting on the side of the road with a state police sitting right behind them Til this day they wouldn't not know what they would have done if I was not at home.

1. WHAT SCHOOL DID YOU GET INTIATED AT AND WHAT YEAR?
Northwest Missouri State University (Kappa Alpha)--Fall 2001

2. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SIGMA KAPPA?
It all started the summer before my freshman year when I was still deciding whether or not to go through recruitment, and I asked a good guy friend from home that also went to Northwest which sorority he thought I would be best in. He said either Sigma Kappa or another organization. So I go to college and begin recruitment, and what do you know...of the five sororites on campus I loved both Sigma Kappa and the other organization from day one. In the beginning I liked the other organization a lot better, and after the second day I "knew" I was perfect for the other organization...lol. But as each day of parties rolled on I began to realize that Sigma Kappas were more down to earth, friendly, funnier, and more like me than the other organization. I started to see signs of the other organization being very fake, way to obsessed with winning everything like homecoming, greek week, intramurals and grades (funny thing though is that they really don't do as well in all of those things as they hyped it...a whole bunch of talk) than sisterhood and the other really important things about a sorority. I'm so happy I realized what they were really like and what Sigma Kappa was really like. I look back now knowing how things really are, and am so glad I chose Sigma Kappa, the perfect choice for me!

3. WHAT DID YOUR FIRST SET OF LETTERS LOOK LIKE?
My bid day t-shirt...It had Sigma Kappa Bid Day 2001 on the front and a saying on the back that had something to do with wishing on stars. That's pretty bad that I can't remember the saying on my own bid day shirt! And oh yeah...the shirt was sort of a light medium blue with white writing, and there are white stars around the writing. Not the most exciting shirt, but it was special since it was my first.

4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY OF RUSH AND WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY SINCE THEN?

Favorite memory of recruitment was probably when the light bulb went off in my head that Sigma Kappa was for me , and pref was probably my favorite day.

Since recruitment I have had so many wonderful memories. The best times are when I'm just hanging out with my sisters that I'm super close with at non Sigma Kappa functions....but if you want actual events...Greek Week was a blast (well most of it at least), and mom dot week/revealing was pretty awesome too.

1. WHAT SCHOOL DID YOU GET INTIATED AT AND WHAT YEAR?

University of Maryland at College Park

2. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SIGMA KAPPA?

I echo what I have read in all of the posts, they were the most genuine and seemed to take an interest in who I was. To be shallow also, they were a group of beautiful women that seemed to have fun with what they were doing and after being on the other side of Rush for the first time, I realized what good actors they were too. For we all know how hard and trying Rush can be.

3. WHAT DID YOUR FIRST SET OF LETTERS LOOK LIKE?
They were block letters on a white t-shirt, made from fabric that had sunflowers on it. Maryland used to have a cool tradition (been a few years since I graduated) that none of the new members could wear their block letters until they were initiated (all sororities did this) and then after intiation you could wear them. Since intiation is mandatory after 6 weeks of pledging all sororities were intiating at the same time, so it was cool to see all these greek letters all over the place at one time.

4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY OF RUSH AND WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY SINCE THEN?

My favorite memory of Rush was Pref. night. Always a special night and always the best night.

Since I have graduated I feel my bond in my sorority has only deepened, now that I have seen the other side of involvement, as an alumnae. At my wedding all of my bridesmaids were my sorority sisters and there is a group of us who get together at least once a year to be together. As my job takes me various places, I have also met so many women who I instantly share something with because we were Sigma Kappas.
