Thumbs up w00t!

I hope you enjoy the show! The last time I saw him he did a medley of most of his hits and truncated the songs that he didn't work into the medley. I was too through, especially after spending $50. Even so, it was a great show!

Cool I ain't mad at ya!!

You go get your groove on like it's 1999!!! Hee hee.

Rick James and the Mary Jane Girls

Why did I know the whole "In My House" routine from the video? My mom went to see them. Man, she had some bad concert 'fits back in the gap (she still does ). A sister is still trying to catch up.

I have to say, I was a little disappointed when I saw him in Chicago. He is staying away from his more popular hits. While I like the jazz-funk sound on the Rainbow Children. I can't imagine him closing out a concert without singing Purple Rain!!

Check out some reviews

Metromix:
Rock review, Prince at the Chicago Theatre

By Joshua Klein

As early as his late-'70s debut, Prince demonstrated an
almost pathological disdain for expectations. The diminutive
genius made it clear that he would dictate the direction of
his career, making up the rules as he went along.

Prince remains as unpredictable as ever, and though he's no
longer the commercial juggernaut he once was, his sheer
talent still shines, undiminished by time and passing trends.
His most recent release, "The Rainbow Children," may be
thematically inscrutable, but musically it stands with some
of the best work he has ever created.

Religion played a big part in Prince's performance at the
Chicago Theatre Saturday night, the first of two sold-out
shows and only the second date on his tour. Adhering to a
previous public declaration, Prince abstained from profanity
and veered away from his more sexually charged material. The
result was a strange mix of lesser-known songs, a healthy
dose of "The Rainbow Children" and only a handful of hits and
rare gems to reward the faithful.

A good deal of "The Rainbow Children" could be categorized as
jazz fusion, and predictably, Prince's take on jazz probably
wouldn't satisfy most fans of the form. It sure satisfied
Prince, however, who led his air-tight band through several
lengthy Weather Report-like instrumentals, cueing bassist
Rhonda Smith, drummer John Blackwell and saxophone legend
Maceo Parker like a conductor. Prince himself blazed away on
guitar, channeling Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana with each
of his fluid yet fuzzy runs.

New songs such as "Muse 2 the Pharaoh" and "Mellow" may have
been too, well, mellow to spark the crowd, but "Family Name"
and particularly the kinetic funk of "1+1 is 3" brought
everyone to their feet. Prince also led spirited and faithful
covers of Sly and the Family Stone's "Sing a Simple Song" and
the Delfonics' "La La (Means I Love You)."

As for "the hits," Prince's set was short on his classic
material. He did offer a rousing "When You Were Mine," "Take
Me With U," "Starfish and Coffee" and an apparently
spontaneous "Raspberry Beret," which forced his band to
switch gears mid-song. From "1999" and "Lovesexy" came not
the singles, but the somber "Free" and "Anna Stesia,"
respectively. Sitting at his piano he offered the moving
B-sides "Sometimes It Snows in April" and "How Come U Don't
Call Me Anymore."

But then the proselytizing Prince implored people to read the
Bible and embrace Christ. So far Prince fans have proven
willing to follow their favorite wherever he leads, but who
knows if they'll all follow him down this particular path.

THANKS!

thanks for the reviews V.V.!

i assumed he was going to play most of the newer stuff so i went on out and finally cobbed the new cd.

the oldies ARE the bomb, but since prince of 2002 is a bit different than prince from the 80's (more spiritual), i wont expect "darling nikki" or some of the more raunchy songs - but he'd better take me back just a little!

**remembering back in elementary/junior high... either you were a PRINCE fan or MICHAEL JACKSON fan - had to choose one or the other!**

my reviews

here's my review of the concert......

IT WAS OFF DA CHAIN!

I was sweatin from dancing, hoarse from sing at the top of my lungs, and got a little light headed a few times from just outright screaming like a basket case!

We were about 5 minutes late, but he had already started.... but i was pumped cause we had REAL good seats (i just couldnt believe he was right THERE!)... but anyway he played about 2 or 3 songs from the "rainbow children album" and said if we came to hear some purple rain we came to the wrong place... so i just prepared myself for the "new prince"...

well other than the few songs he played in the beginning..... EVERYTHING else was old school! I'm talking bout rasberry beret, diamonds and pearls, take me with you, do me baby, adore (yeah i nearly lost it on this one), anna stesia, boys and girls, nothing compares to you, ...ALL the hits!

after the 1st time he told us good night (he said it about 3 times, but kept coming back) he said he never does this song, but we asked for it... and he did PURPLE RAIN anyway!

Los Angeles was pumped (seriously the crowd was ridiculous) - he seemed pumped cause we were out of control....no opening acts, just THREE HOURS of straight Prince!

whenever he comes back to LA i am sooooo there - i dont care what the cost. i paid top cost for this last one and it was WELL worth it!

Well SOMEONE must have told his little purple AZZ, 'cause he did almost NO old school in Chicago, which I believe, was his first tour date!! Now I'm a little salty, because you got a better show!

I still love The Purple One, but his Chicago show was not good compared to yours!

Thumbs up Have fun for me too!

I am big fan. I would be a bit disappointed too if he did not play his early 80's classics.
