The time has come......
SIGMAPALOOZA
April 6th for those of you who live near-by enough that want to come, let me know ASAP. OAR is no longer coming to my dissatisfaction (one of our guys kinda dropped the ball on that), but we do have 5 great bands, and 80+ kegs for $12 which is by no means a bad deal. It's going to be a blast, and I can probably house you, but we may end up having a LOT of people in my place....but who cares...we're in college, right? Anyway...lots of people, lots of alcohol, and lots of music.
3,000 people
5 bands
3 beer trucks
1 night
0 regrets
Cory

Make sure you have a guest list. Most GLO's have rules against open parties. My chapter found that out the hard way (this would never have happened if I wasn't alumni). We had a few sanctions put on us by IHQ the worst being no drinking at the fraternity house for a year. Not a big deal seeing most events are away from there but it sucks for the guys that live there.lol

Yo ZEKE, did you take K girl to J place for Birthday or go to M place?
We need to stir something up!
Nothing heating up on GC!
And yes you can be the PM! How could I get along without Mellow Man.

The guest list isn't going to protect them. They are selling alcohol, have 80 kegs, and are most likely serving minors unless all 3000 people are over 21 which I doubt. That being said, most of the fraternities on my campus do the same thing every spring, but there are a lot of precautions that can be taken to get around the rules.

Oh yah I skipped right over the price thing. You are right. I think that might make things even worse depending on the GLO's rules.

Agreed. But you have to remember, that they have to make the risk management rules the way they are so as to cover every possible situation. If you read and understand the SPIRIT of the rules and not the Letter of the rules, you will understand that you can break some of their rules, just as long as you dont engege in negligent behavior, or put others in risky siruations. You can break the no kegs rul, or more than 6 drinks rule, just dont be a stupid ass about it and give going away cups full of beer and pass out vodka shots, youre ok. BTW I really believe our insurance policies arent workth the paper their written on. Ya actually think your (anyones) national org is gonna cover your ass in the even of a negligance suit? hells no, thy'ee cover their own ass and turn the back on you. So be careful - not for some yahoo in Indy, but for your own ass. Gyranteee Lloyd in london aint givin a crap about you, and like all ins. companies will do whatever it can to deny claims.
But have a good time cory. I'd be ther if It wasnt about 17 states away.

I'm not talking about our National Orgs covering our asses. We've pulled together Risk Management teams, hired distributors, hired a location, hired cops to card at the door, hired a cab service to take people home...most all liability will fall on the place we're having it at rather than ourselves.

Sounds to me like you covered your asses nicely. Of course, at our school, we had Lollapaloomsburg (Bloomsburg University), and it got busted! This was like 7 years ago or something, but still, it got busted by the LCB. They came in and took all the kegs and taps, and breathalized every single person who wasn't 21. Thankfully I was, but I saw them with the paddy wagon full of people. Pi Kapp got booted that day, but it was wicked fun!
