Angry Stereotypes...

I will be rushing starting August 17th!! I had a little ranting to do...

First of all, does each house on your campus have a reputation? I've been doing my research, and it turns out that every single house on my soon-to-be campus has one, good or bad. I know a lot of the girls in the houses, and I know that every house seems to have a variety of girls--some goody-goody, some party animals, some sluts, some virgins....

But every house has a reputation, despite the diversity. A house I really like has a horrible reputation for being "high class sluts." I know that they can't ALL be sluts, but that's their name. And a lot of the other sororities are mean to them because of this. Another house is known as having all the "ice queens." I don't know any of them, but jeez!! Another one I like has a good reputation--they're known as being down-to-earth (their house isn't as fancy) which I'm sure they all aren't, but that's what their known for.

I want to be in a house that I feel comfortable in, but I don't want to inherit a bad name... Does anybody else have this problem?

Well if every house has a reputation, but you know them to be diverse, then the reputations can't be altogether correct, can they?

Go with the sorority you like the best and don't worry about the immature a-holes out there who have a compulsion to put a label on everyone and everything.

REPUTATIONS SUCK!! Before I went to school, everyone said that there was only 1 "cool" sororty on campus. When i went through Rush, i barely looked at other houses because I wanted to be in the cool house. Well, I didn't get asked back to that house. And, looking back, my sorority is a much better fit for me and I love all of my sisters. Put the reputations in the back of your mind and make a decision based on your own feelings, regardless of how the house is known. You'll thank yourself for it!

Unfortunately, reputations are often started because of the behavior of few, and rarely repesent the moral of an entire house. You've said yourself that you know they are diverse, so just put the negativity in the back of your mind and enjoy recruitment.

Unhappy

Every where, everyone will stereotype sororities. Its just how society is,and it sucks. I just finished arguing with some chick on chickclick boards, but I know I was wasting time and effort typing. These people who say negative things and attach a 'reputation' to a sorority are just bored. When you go through rush FORGET everything negative you have heard. Most people base these reps on one brief encounter with a single sister and thats how rumors and reps get started. Go through rush, visit every house, get to know the girls as much as possible.
When I went through rush, there were only 2 national soroities on my campus. So I went to all the parties, even though I "knew" that one was known for being the fun, party animal, slightly snotty group, and the other to be down to earth, studious group. Of course I thought I wanted to be in the party group, althoug I was intimidated. Both groups of girls were sweet, funny, interesting and great to be with. I could have had either, but I bid AOPI and I love them. I am still friends with some of the other girls, but I kept an open honest frame of mind, and found the right house for me.

Remember, rumors are just that....RUMORS.
Go with were your heart is happy, adn don't listen to the idiots. Cause guess what, I have heard I am a slut, stuck up bitch from AOPI, and I don't care, because I know its not true, and so do my friends! Have fun with rush, it is a great time to make a new 'family'!

Here's your solution. Quit listening to what other people have to say. Go through Rush with an open mind. Make up your own conclusions and pledge where you feel at home.

**By the way, I'm not really sure if I buy this Idahovandal character.
