Pretty Girls???

To the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
How much does physical appearance factor into your decision to accept someone into your sorority?
If a person has an excellent GPA, is active in their community and on campus but they aren't the ideal standard of beauty would you reject them. Would you want an "ugly" person in your organization? I only ask b/c I have read posts that have been made by members greek orgs. and non members about people who are not attractive (ie, the singer BRANDY and how FAR apart her eyes are.)

DST seeks women of character who have at least a 2.5 GPA, and are committed to performing community service.

I am not sure if you have seen women of Delta but they run the gamut in terms of appearance, skin color, hair, etc.

DELTA is an organization of diverse women in all aspects of life.

Hope this answers your question.

I can't say that I've "rejected" or not voted for someone because they were ugly, fat, or even disabled, but I also won't get all Delta self-righteous and say it never happens. That's a part of life and greek organizations can succumb to that as well. But I am strongly affected by the way an applicant presents herself in an interview - especially at the alumnae level. It can be hard to forget stuttering, ghetto speech, a lisp or someone who isn't dressed well. Especially when you move around - in some places certain hairstyles and clothing are considered "business-like" and those same styles are considered "party clothes" or "ghetto hair" someplace else. If I see someone at a Rush or an interview with an updo that looks like a person can fit inside, I think it's tacky, but someone else might think it's nice. I'm also bothered by the "natural hair" trend when the hair is unruly - I don't have a problem with un-permed hair, but keep it neat!!

Crimson hit the nail on the head

In all organizations...you have women that 'run the gamet'....I'm a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. We come in all shapes, sizes, complexions, colors and etc (Despite the STEREOTYPES! -- which I despise). We are very diverse. We look for strong minded women who want to serve their community as well as uplift the purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Now as Crucial Crimson has stated, I won't say that 'sometimes' appearance doesn't factor in...but for me, personally, just because I find someone isn't attractive in my book doesn't mean she shouldn't become a member. I look at the total package. So if your hygeine is out of wack or prsent yourself horribly, that would be taken into consideration.
