Pledging as a Senior?
Bit of back story here, a friend of mine transferred to mason from a local community college, and thought that she had at least another 2 years on her tenure here at GMU. Her bf is a Teke (my big bro actually), and it really opened her eyes about GLO's out here.
So she was seriously thinking about doing fall rush for a sorority, and it all seemed good, while not a freshman, she had enough time on her hands to go through the new member process and still savor the time of being a full sister. But now she's overhauled her schedule, and plans to graduate next summer a year from now, just making it 2 short semesters left at mason.
My question is, do sororities look at seniors for rush canidates? Has anyone done this before and rushed as a senior? if they did, is it worth it?

It would vary from school to school and house to house. At my school, USC, at least when I was there, freshmen had the best chance, sophomores were still ok, anything beyond that, even if you were a third year sophomore, you just didn't make it.
But again, it varies.

I pledged in Winter 2000 and one of my pledge sisters was already married. She is student teaching in Fall 2001, and graduating in Winter 2002. For us, age doesn't matter. Its quality that does matter, and when i say quality i mean how well we all get along and if we think she is right for our sorority. We dont care about status, age, class (soph, fresh, etc), we just care about the personality of that rushee.

One of my pledge sisters was a senior. We pledged Fall 2000 and she just graduated in May. But I think different chapters are going to look at it differently. I was a junior and I think that was a lot of the reason I didn't receive many bids. Maybe you could ask some of your friends that are in sororities at Mason. I know some guys in Phi Kappa Sigma at GMU, so I could ask them to ask around too.

Our chapter usually does not extend bids to seniors, just b/c they aren't going to be in school for much longer and won't be able to get involved as much as we would like them to get involved. We make exceptions for juniors, if they still have like 2 years or more, but my chapter usually likes to have girls who will be in school for a longer period of time so they can have a chance to get to know all the sisters and be involved in committees or even the Executive Council.

I've met brothers who have pledged as second semester seniors (received brotherhood and the diploma within a month of each other). I know of one of them who went onto another college for grad school and helped start a chapter there. (Alpha Phi Omega allows chapters to have grad students as full members if they choose.)

I went through formal Rush my second year, and couldn't take my Theta bid because I was running and eventually won a Miss America local title. When I was holding orientation for the girls who would eventually take my title, I ran across a Theta who has rushed me, and she convinced me to come back to Theta. I was a 4th year, graduating the next December, so I had a total of 4 quarters left, and they took me back. Another 4th year pledged with me, we were in a class of 16 almost all being Freshman, but it was great being around all the young girls. I know many houses don't take older girls becaues they don't think they will be active, but my pledgesister and I, who are the older ones, are two of the most active girls in the house. I've been to almost EVERY single event so far, including all Greek Week sporting events...and hold a small position in the house. I've stepped up when I've been needed and will be helping with Rush this year.
Sigma Kappa took an older transfer who was married, and Kappa Sig also took a 4th year graduating in December...
It should matter what the year, I know it does in many houses, thank God I finally found Theta Love.
