My apologize

I just want to apologize on here for stepping on anyone's toes and for getting off on the wrong foot, my bad and I would like to restart. I am a Mom and I am simply here to just get some advice and research. I really am not a helicopter Mom. Matter of fact, I won't even be at my daughter's campus except for the day I move her in and then on bid day. The rest of rush week I will be gone and not in the same town as her. I'm not even going with her for orientation. I have never joined a sorority nor went to college, but that doesn't mean I don't know any better I have found some helpful advice and I appreciate that ALOT! My daughter and I are currently working on her resume and packets to be sent to those who have said they would write her a rec. We hope to have them done by next weekend. She is very much involved in the process, as it is her doing this. She is not too busy to help out or do things, or go to special events. If I made it sound that way, then I am sorry. So I hope this post finds a new beginning and a new reintroduction to me.

Quoted for posterity....so it's there even if you delete your original post.

And, FWIW, I am not trying to be snarky with this next statement. I am trying to be helpful. Please be sure someone with an excellent grammar background proofs your daughter's resume and cover letter to the rec writers. It doesn't appear to be your strong suit.

This, and just to add in some respects this is good prep for post graduate life in putting a resume and cover letter together to prepare to go out into the work force. As someone who is in the position of reviewing resumes and evaluating them to bring people in for interviews I can tell you that there are people who I have passed over due to typos/poor grammar. Shows a lack of attention to detail.

Best of luck to your daughter and I hope she has a positive experience.

Are there any comments on andthen's grammar and punctuation skills, anyone?

To the OP, your apology was gracious.

Aw, don't worry about it! Yesterday's weather was cold, so lots of people were on the computer instead of out!
I think you're doing great!

No worries here. Your apology was gracious. I think you only intended the best. It will be competitive, and, in addition to the lead preparation, one of the best things that you and your daughter can do is try to prepare for what may seem to be some arbitrariness in the process. It's a bit like planning for a fire or flood -- you can prepare but there may always be surprises when the actual event hits. While your daughter may have some favorites -- and this will be hard -- she should keep as level a head as it is possible for a teen to have. There will be lots of tent talk (gossip), but if you really look hard at all of the houses, ALL are of substantial size (so there will be a subgroup of women who will be a comfy fit) and ALL are building/improving their structures which speaks to bright futures, and ALL have packed social and leadership agendas. Also keep in mind that recruitment is sales -- the Bama women are pros at promoting their chapters and making every PNM feel special. Even so, there will be a certain genuineness that will cause certain chapters to resonate more with your daughter. Once the recs, dresses and manicures are in place, your daughter will really want to polish her conversation skills. Look for a thread on GC started by APhiAnna. There used to be a poster for University of Kentucky named "Pass the Pinot". That will be YOUR activity during recruitment.

I wish you and your daughter success! (And success is a bid to ANY chapter at Bama!). : )

PS. Be careful not to post live details during recruitment.

The university's office of Greek Life is the best place to answer those questions. I suggest you call them to get the best and right answer.

I agree that it was gracious you apologized. We all wish your daughter the best of luck in recruitment. Are you still having a hard time finding recs (or was that someone else)? As noted earlier, Alabama is a great school with a strong Greek system. It would be great to be a member of any sorority at 'Bama.

May 1 is fine to send the recs. DO NOT wait till recruitment! They've already done all their evaluations by then and it may just go in File 13 at that point.

If you weren't trying to be snarky, you could have sent it as a private message.
