When I was in school I know many of my sisters visited neighboring chapters. I would think it would be cool but no one ever visited our chapter and I have never done it personally. I grew up in a college town (Auburn) and then went away to school (Tallahassee) and there are Phi Mu chapters in both places. When I came home for the summers I actually ended up working with 3 other Phi Mu's at a local boutique. They were great and we had an instant connection, but I never made a formal visit to their chapter room or anything.

bean00116,
Where in PA are you? I'm at the Phi Kappa chapter at Muhlenberg College in Allentown PA. Is your chapter far away?

Hey there. Thanks for your reply. My chapter is in York at York College of Pa. right close to the boarder of Maryland. But, I live farther north in Pa. Close to Williamsport. I am at a small chapter we have had some girls come up or around for rush. But, last semester we didn't have rush because there wasn't enough girls interested so i really didn't get to meet anyone. I did go to West Chester for a rugby game and I met the Phi Mus there.

My chapter occasionally makes the three hour drive up to the chapter at Orono, but we haven't for a while. Sometimes we go up for their Initiation, or they come down for ours. But we're all for road trips to other chapters, when we have the time.

I know when I was still in college, our chapter used to help the house at Ohio State with their rush when they needed support. I was never able to go to rush there, but I had some friends on campus and would visit occasionally. I went to the Phi Mu house (which I believe is now closed...) wearing letters once. I think that threw the girls there until I explained myself. The really strange thing was it was kind of like walking into my mother's house. A LOT of the furniture was the same as hers.

My chapter did/does a lot of road trips as the nearest AOII chapter is 6 hours away!
We would do the trip over our break (mid Feb) and drive from Calgary, Alberta (get out your maps now) to Long Beach, CA; Pullman, WA; Flagstaff, AZ; Boulder, CO; (these were all different years) (other than Pullman - all were about 30-37 hrs each).
We found it really expanded our concept of sisterhood and we learned tons of new stuff too (plus got us out of our 'bubble')!!
If you do want to go ....
1) Find people seriously interested (need reliable vehicles)
2) Determine a chapter/destination
3) Contact the chapter and see if they will be around/able to provide floor/sofas for sleeping, and do some sisterhood activities!!
4) Finalize details
5) Remember the road trip rules - "What happens on the road, stays on the road"
6) Don't forget to bring a thank you gift (something with your school crest etc, is always nice) - it goes a long way in a return trip coming back your way!!
Good luck!!
PS - To this day, I still love doing road trips to visit AOII's - good thing my husband does too

My chapter tried to go on a road trip once, but the chapter we got in touch with us never responded. I would love to visit another chapter.
Those chapters that do have road trips, how often do you go? What's the farthest you've ever gone?

My chapter has never done one since I have been in it. I am still new so they might have done one in the past. I posted this message to get a good idea and see if i could maybe put a road trip together. I am trying to get in contact with other chapters too by posted this message so I could meet other sisters and possibly organize a road trip. So if your Phi Mu chapter is interested let me know. We are a small chapter on our campus so if anyone has any ideas to boost our numbers let me know. Also feel free to IM me ( Sec33chic )I am always on and would love to hear from you.
Thanks everyone for your ideas and in-put.

Hey girls,
I know that this is an old thread, but.... my chapter is always talking about wanting to travel around and check out other chapters and see what people there are like and we'd love to have people come visit us! I'm at Phi Kappa chapter at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. If any other nearby chapters are interested in getting together (York, West Chester, Albright, Drexel, etc), let me know!

Come visit US! We've got girls at Christopher Newport Univ. (Not too far away, a little under an hour and a half I think,) Randolph-Macon (they have a great house -- 20 min away) and here (Virginia Commonwealth!)
We'd LOVE to meet you girls!

Ok, so I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd get the blood flowing again. DEFINITELY I think road trips are a fabulous idea! Especially during pledging, cause then the pledges get to learn that Phi Mu is more than jsut their chapter. So GO ROAD TRIPPING!
