Question brother fraternities

I was just wondering if every fraternity and sorority has a brother/sister fraternity/sorority, or if it was just a few. I never really thought about it much until my roomate told me that Kappa's brother fraternity is Sigma Chi, and that's why they're so close. After that...I've always been curious.

Cool

it varies from school to school. There are a few that are constintionaly linked. Zeta Phi Beta and Phi Beta Sigma. And there is another group. I forget the names, so do a search for that one.

Our sister sorority on our campus is Alpha Sigma Tau. Some say it is because the that is who we hung out with when we started at our campus, others say because the 2nd and 3rd letters of thier name are the 1st and 2nd letters of ours. I am not sure though. We are more strongly affiliated with Zeta Tau Alpha now, even though they are not our sister sorority.

Sigma Chi doesn't have a sister sorority or can we have little sisters because of any incident with a little sister way back in the day at Purdure. She thought since she was a little sis and big sis and knew our pledge stuff she thought she should be initiated and sued to be initiated. She lost and ever since then we got rid of little sis's....damn women screw everything up! :-)
But Kappa Kappa Gamma doesn't have a sister sorority relationship with us....maybe at your school they hang out a lot though. Kappa Delta has a few things in common with us like the Norman Shield but we aren't affiliated in any way.

We weren't allowed to have brother fraternities at our school, but back in the day, Tau Epsilon Phi and D Phi E used to have conventions together and everything.

Cool

We aren't allowed to have an "official" brother fraternity, but on my campus we were always close to Kappa Sigma. Our chapter was founded by Kappa Sig little sisters and the guys were very supportive of them.

lvandenb, I know that you know this already -I'm surprised that you didn't mention our special connection...

Alpha Xi Delta, nationally, considers Sigma Nu our brother fraternity because they played such a big part in helping our founders... we even picked our Pink Rose as a compliment to their White Rose. I'm not sure if Sigma Nu recognizes the relationship but they are very special to us.

Thank you Sigma Nu!!!

Thanks everyone for helping me out with this one. I'm always curious about other fraternities and sororities and their histories. I really appreciate all of the replies!!!

In the NPHC:

historically the bonds are as follows:

Zeta Phi Beta Sigma- the only truly bonded brother and sister sorority. They call themselves "True Family". Constitutionally bonded, so no arguments there. There are RARE instances of chapters not getting along (I know of one campus where the Zetas were close to the gentlemen of KAPsi and called themselves the "American Team" with red, white and blue- I was LMAO) but on a national level they all know the deal.

AKA and APA- The first family, members of APA did play a part in the conceptualization of AKA, and we have ties along those lines. This is not official though and may vary from campus to campus- sometimes you see the Phi-oop connection with members of APA and DST (they have connections through founders who were married) and the Skee-Yo connection with AKA and KAPsi (which have founders that were reportedly related- Lucy Diggs Slowe and Elder Watson Diggs were aunt and nephew, and also the first presidents of their respective orgs- both were also nationally recognised educators, and both have educational institutions named after them)

Coleman Love- DST and Omega Psi Phi have founders that were married and a number of other bonds apparently, with founders of each org helping out the others when DST and QPsiPhi were born- before Beejae jumps all over me, lol, I shall note that this is unofficial, there are no constitutional bonds, and that not all although many, many many Deltas and Ques will acknowledge this bond

SGRHo and KAPsi- These two orgs are in my mind the most independent of the nine (outside of IPT of course, which has no real sister sorority in this sense). On many campuses they do not claim one another, yet on many others they do claim a bond. Then SGRhos are also known to be close to the men of IPT through the Golden Love Affair (both orgs use the color gold)and are bonded as the last two orgs admitted into the NPHC.

So as you can see, these things shift, which is fine as long as we all just acknowledge Black Greek Love first. We are all peoples together!
