I loved watching All in the Family when I was a kid. The re-runs were on in the afternoon when I got home from school.

I watched it as a kid with my family when it first ran on Saturday nights.* Looking back on it, I've realized just how many conversations about issues of the day were prompted by episodes of All in the Family.
* When I was 12, Saturday night on CBS meant All in the Family, M*A*S*H, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show and The Carol Burnett Show. As Archie and Edith sang, "those were the days."

Ditto. Although I was in bed before The Carol Burnett Show and may have been just a tad bit younger than 12 at the time.

I remember re-runs of all of those shows. I could watch All in the Family all day. I was so excited during our trip to D.C. to visit the Smithsonian and see both Archie's chair and Carol Burnette's Curtain outfit from her Gone with the Wind Spoof.
So sad to see she passed away. I saw on the news this morning that due to the chemistry being so good between her and Archie, many people believed they were married in real life and that she got condolence letters/cards when he passed away a few years ago.

That is just precious! I couldn't watch All In The Family without her - she was what kept it edgy.

I think all four main actors are what kept it edgy. Archie, Edith, Gloria, and Mike the Meathead---and sometimes the Jeffersons next door.

I suppose edgy was the wrong word - she was more the foil for each of the other, edgier characters.
