UNT: Anyone with information?

Hello everyone,

I am new to this board and I hope that I am posting in the correct forum. I will be transferring to the University of North Texas (Denton) in the fall of 2002 and would like to participate in recruitment. I have been reading all the archives on this board and I think I have an idea of what to expect, but have not seen any posts on recruitment at UNT. I have been to their website and while it does give some good general information about all the chapters, I don't feel it answered my questions.

Is recruitment at UNT as competitive other universities in TX (UT, Baylor, SMU, Texas Tech, A&M, etc)? Is there a pretty strong greek system in general?

Are recs only required for southern schools and if you are not a legacy, how does one obtain a rec? Is it a requirement for rush? And since it is soooo HOT in Dallas in August, what would be appropriate attire to wear? I pay my own tuition, so I really can't afford the buy a new wardrobe, but of course I want to fit it and wear the "right" clothing. Does this make sense??

I have learned alot by reading the different forums on this board and I have had many questions answered just by reading the archives in various forums. You guys always seem so willing to help and answer questions so hopefully someone can answer my questions.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Well, I didnt go to UNT, but I did go to TWU in Denton, and have friends in sororities at UNT. And no, UNT isn't quite as competitive as other schools. The greek system is pretty strong there, and since there are only two sororities at TWU, we did stuff with UNT alot. The greeks are pretty active in the school and community. When I went through rush it was appropriate to wear nice sundresses and sandals or khakis for the first rounds, and of course a nice black dress for pref. And we didn't have to have recs although they did accept them. But like I said, this is for TWU, but it may give you a better idea of rush. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the information

Thank you for the information. It really helped. I wasn't aware that TWU even had sororities...do you guys usually have mixers and activites with UNT? I noticed on UNT's Greek website they are having a "Meet the Greeks" night in a couple of weeks..is is common for soroities to have spring recruitment? Or is this done if quota is not met in the fall? Is it possible to get a bid in the spring if you did not receive a bid in the fall?

Thanks again for the information.

Well, since there were only 2 nationals, AOII and AGD, we always did stuff with UNT. Especially with the fraternities. And depending on what houses meet quota will determine spring rush. I know that us and Alpha Gam almost always had a spring rush. Defenantly go to Meet the Greek night, it is a great chance to find out about the entire rush process and get an idea of what each house is about. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions!
