Informal Recruitment Cancelled

At the university where our new colony is (I'm the colony advisor), they have decided not to hold informal recruitment this spring.

Since our women will be having COB events for the entire semester, and nobody else will really be doing recruitment, what COB ideas can we use to get women interested in joining when nobody else is really rushing, so to speak.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

None of the other groups will be doing ANY recruitment in the Spring? Are they all at total or something? And I assume you don't have deferred Rush.

We have deferred rush, so our informal recruitment period is during the fall. We were big on COB's throught this past fall semester since there were a good number of prospects interested who did not go through informal rush.

Flyers were put up around campus and throught the dorms. Permission was needed for this, so if you do decide to do this, I would check on that. Tell girls who you are interested in about the COB's. You should be enthusiastic about all COB's, of course. Being that way willingly, and not forced to be, will get the prospects really interested in COB's.

Our first COB was a bowling event. It was a lot of fun and we had a lot of girls show up. We had 1/2 A-Phi's and 1/2 prospects on each team. It was a good way of getting to interact with the girls and get to know them. Another COB event we did, which had a great turn out, was going to a pizza place that has tons of games, sort of like Chuck E. Cheese. We all ate pizza and talked with the girls. After that, we all played games, which was great! I wouldn't recommend going to a movie, because you don't really get to speak with the girls, which is the whole point!

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. Good luck with COB's!

I wouldn't look at this as a disadvantage rather an opportunity! Think about it, the other sororities are probably used to a more sturstured informal recruitment period, will be clueless how to proceed and you can snap up all the top eligible women!!

If you are concerned about the lack of other chapters participating hurting you, why not ask Panhel to advertise "sorority informal recruitment" as a Panhel event, even though you are the only chapter participating.

Another idea would be to contact the advisors of other groups that are under total and advertise together, hold events different nights and make it look like more than one or two groups are particpating, creating more of a turnout.

What campus is it anyways??
Good luck!

shadokat, I sincerely hope they cancelled it because they're all full and not for lack of interest! eek!

First thing to do is get the list of women who went through recruitment (OMG I actually said recruitment instead of rush...I'm turning PC...and the other day I baked 7 dozen cookies...who is inhabiting my body, and where has the real me gone??!?) Where was I...oh yeah, get a list of the women who weren't offered bids or dropped out and see if they are interested. They might have wanted to go for it with you guys, but weren't sure exactly what being a colony involved. Since they have had time to observe D Phi E operating, they might be more interested.

I think this will be great...there might have been women who didn't go through rush first semester cause they weren't ready, and now that you are the only game in town as far as joining THIS semester, it should be a real asset.

You might end up chartering with a completely different group than you started with...I've seen it happen a couple times...but you will know those are the people who really have the guts to stick it out and work.
