Indiana: Zeta Beta Tau removed from campus
No official article as of yet, but the letters on the chapter house of Zeta Beta Tau at Indiana were removed today. The brothers will be evicted from the house at the end of the fall semester. I do know why, however, when the official decision becomes available, I'll post it

Just an update for those that are interested. There has always been a rather antagonistic relationship between the university and the ZBT landlord, and the chapter has a checkered history.

Checkered is one word for it.

Hahaha, I remember them getting in trouble for a scavenger hunt in the late 90's...those were a lot of guys I went to camp with.

They haven't changed a bit, and there's WAY more to the story than what's in the article

So who wins the "available housing" lottery?

If that house in the the condition it used to be...it's no prize, that's for sure.

It's worse, I think. I was last in it last year and it is absolutely disgusting. It made most frat houses look pristine in comparison.

Oh, man, that would be INSANE if one of the unhoused NPC groups could have it. What else is the landlord possibly going to do with it besides fix it up and try to lease it to a different group? Are there unhoused fraternities chomping at the bit, as well?

Well, Delta Chi and Phi Sig (I think) are the only unhoused fraternity chapters big enough to take it..

Give the fraternities time, I am sure someone else will get kicked off for something. It's not even close to Little 5 time.
That house would have to have MAJOR reno and sanitization for a sorority to move in. You can google the chapter and see photos of the house interior.

ZBT is not all that gross on the inside. I've been inside on several occasions recently and they've been doing a lot of renovations to both the inside and outside of their house.
Phi Sig has Acacia's house next year, so they probably won't be taking it. The most realistic option would probably be Delta Chi, as I'm pretty sure that they are the next-largest unhoused chapter next to SAE (who is in the process of building a house now) and Phi Sig (who already has housing plans for next year).

To have a house that is anything short of a literal tear down I would think would be a win. Ugly, seriously dirty, in need of new sinks and showers, that's all easy. If the problems aren't structural in nature and I was one of the unhoused chapters at IU, I'd have been on the horn about this one already. And the landlord would have to be interested. Converting it to apartment style housing would cost him a lot of money. Converting it to a sorority house probably wouldn't cost him much at all, if anything, since you could probably get the sorority to cover a big chunk of it, if not all of it. The pictures to me say it needs some TLC, paint, curtains, carpet. None of this is cheap, but it is a house on campus, near other fraternities (and sororities, hopefully?), and appears to hold a reasonable number of members. It's still probably not going to sleep the 100+ that the sororities do, but I think it could be perfectly respectable.

Anyone know how many it sleeps, roughly?

Yes, the house is very close to Alpha Xi Delta and Alpha Delta Pi. Across the street and down a bit are Delta Zeta and Alpha Omicron Pi. SDT and ChiO are also on the Jordan extension (I might have forgotten one...)
I think one drawback for a sorority to move in is that is is owned by a landlord, who is probably unwilling to sell the house/land. So on a campus where housing is at a premium, the landlord could jack around with all kinds of stuff with the threat of "if you're not happy, lots of groups would love to have this house..."
