The Babysitters Club #487: Shannon's Big Rush at a Small School

"Shannon" is so excited to go through sorority recruitment at her small southern school!

The school has the following groups:
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Omicron Pi
Delta Phi Epsilon
Kappa Delta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Phi Mu
Zeta Tau Alpha

Which we will call:
Kristy
Claudia
Mary Anne
Stacey
Dawn
Mallory
Jessi

Going into recruitment, Shannon had heard a lot about Claudia, Stacey, and Dawn. Everyone seemed to think these three chapters were definitely the ones Shannon should focus on! However, Shannon hadn't heard anything (positive or negative) about the others, so she was very interested to see what they were like. In spite of what she'd heard, Shannon wanted to go in with her mind and heart open to all of the houses!

BSC was my fave as a kid, and I'm rooting for Dawn and Jessi! (have a feeling this is going to be another amazing rush *ahem* recruitment story!)

Haha, I felt like the thread title wouldn't sound as "BSC-style" if it had a modern word like recruitment.

Have you seen the new covers for the newest releases of the books? It's so weird to see the original books without the 80s/early 90s photos on them.

Just saw one in a bookstore last week, had to do a double take, they don't look anything like the ones I remember. Really loves the Mysteries they did as well.

KRISTY
Shannon thought the girls here were nice, but she didn't really feel like she got to know anyone super well. She'd like to return to get to know them better.

CLAUDIA
The girls at Claudia were every bit as gorgeous and sweet as Shannon had heard! She had a great time here and definitely wants to return.

MARY ANNE
Shannon thought the girls here were nice, but just like with Kristy, she didn't feel like she got to know them very well. She wouldn't mind returning to try to get to know them better.

STACEY
Shannon had heard that these girls were beautiful and sweet, and they definitely were! She wants to return, for sure.

DAWN
These girls were everything Shannon expected and more... gorgeous, sweet, and so welcoming. This is her favorite house so far.

MALLORY
Shannon thought these girls were very nice, but she just didn't feel any sort of "spark" with the girls she met. She wouldn't mind returning to get to know them better, but at this point she doesn't see herself here.

JESSI
This house was a bit of a surprise for Shannon... she didn't know much about the house before recruitment, but she thought these girls were absolutely on par with the houses she had heard so much about. This is definitely one of her top groups.

So, after round one, her favorites were Dawn, Jessi, Claudia, and Stacey!

For round 2, PNMs can visit up to 6 houses, so Shannon decided to list Mallory as her #7 house.

Shannon was invited back to the six houses to which she wanted to return.

KRISTY
Shannon thought the girls here were nice, but she still didn't feel like she was making any strong connections.

CLAUDIA
Once again, Shannon really liked this house.

MARY ANNE
Shannon thought the girls here were nice, but after visiting here twice she just doesn't know that it's a good fit for her.

STACEY
Shannon really liked this house again!

DAWN
Shannon has several houses that she really likes, but she LOVES Dawn! She can't imagine herself anywhere else!

JESSI
Shannon really liked this house again!

For round 3, PNMs can visit up to 4 houses, so Shannon had an easy time figuring out her top 4 (though, truth be told, at this point it's more of a #1 and then three other houses she likes a lot but not as much as her #1). She listed Kristy and Mary Anne as her #5 and #6.

Shannon fell even more in love with Dawn this round! The more girls she gets to know, the more she sees herself as part of the group.

JESSI
Shannon really likes these girls. They are fun, sweet, and welcoming to her. She definitely wouldn't mind being one of them, but it's hard to really see anything as second place when she loves Dawn so much.

CLAUDIA

For prefs, PNMs can visit three houses. This was a really hard decision for Shannon to make because, while she knows Dawn is her #1, her #2, #3, and #4 houses are actually pretty equal in her mind. Jessi is great because the girls are more laid back and fun, Claudia is not only gorgeous but also down to earth and sweet, and Stacey is beautiful and sweet, too!

In the end, Shannon decided to list Stacey as her #4 house, not because she would mind returning but because she HAD to choose someone to be #4.

Shannon was ecstatic when she was invited to her top 3 for prefs! Here's how things went down...

CLAUDIA
Shannon enjoyed the pref ceremony here and thinks the girls are gorgeous and sweet. She just didn't connect with them on a sisterhood-level.

JESSI
Shannon enjoyed the pref ceremony here and wouldn't mind being a member. The girls are beautiful, fun, and sweet. She could see herself being a member, if it wasn't for...

DAWN
Shannon could not believe how at home she felt here. The girls are lovely in every way and treat her as though she is already part of the group!

The rankings after prefs were obvious for Shannon:
1. Dawn
2. Jessi
3. Claudia

Now she just had to wait for bid day!

Oh, Babysitters Club... lots of fun memories of reading those! Since Francine Pascal did "Sweet Valley Confidential," anyone think Ann M. Martin will do a ten-years-later type story with the BSC?
