Thumbs up Newbies Wanna Get Involved, Too!

Hey, Greeks! I'm P.C. '01-and, as I was sick at the beginning of the semester (During NME, Pledge retreat, etc), I find myself lagging behind the rest of my Pledge Class and Sisters... meaning that I don't know them that well and am not always up to dat w/ what's going on @ the house. I really, really, really wanna get involved- but don't know how to start! Any ideas?

Talking Thanks, ZTA!

Thanks for the encouragement, ZTA! That's exactly what I'm trying to do... I just applied to be a PR Girl for our HUGE annual Philanthropy/ Sweetheart Pageant and have spent tons of time w/ sisters who have just happened to be invited to the same Holiday Date functions as me....

To add to what BrownEyedGirl said, someone who has a big position, new member/pledge mom or recruitment chair is probably looking for help but is afraid to ask! So let it be known that you want to help. I had two small programming positions this past year, points/parlimentarian and scholastics chair and was asked to help our Recruitment Chair so i got to be the CROWN chair as well. I did a few things but mostly was there to bounce ideas off and give suggestions if I had them...oh and donate my crafty supplies and talents too! don't hang around with the same people all the time either, you're more likely to feel back in the loop if you know more poeple maybe. good luck!

Well, I know that for my pledge brothers who don't live in the house the easiest way for them to catch up was just for them to make it over to the house as often as possible. Now they are over here everyday and usually don't go back to their dorm rooms during the day (particularly the ones that live in the dorms out in BFE). That's probably the easiest way to catch up with the sisters living in, and it will probably let you know what's going on more too. Plus it'll speak volumes of your commitment to the house if you are there often. Maybe eat lunch over there once a week (I know that for my (freshmen) friends in sororities that they have to pay for all the meals that eat at the house (including formal dinner) so none of them go for lunch b/c they have meal plans at the dorms) to really bond.

As for your pledge sisters, I don't know if at Florida State you guys have froshes(where the pledge class of a fraternity and a sorority get together, our are on thursdays, go bowling, or ice skating, or just watch 'Friends' and then go have some beers). But here they are a pretty big deal, and the best chance for you to get together with most of your pledge class as well as meet boys. If you have somethign like that then go. Also, if your bored just call up some of your pledge sisters and go do something, whether it's going to the mall or whatnot.

Lightbulb Thanks, Guys...

Thanks, Guys! Betarulz, I have a sorority meal plan that covers all meals, 5 days a week, so I go as often as I can, when I don't have classes. FSU doesn't realy do Froshes- we have ocasional pledge socials, but mostly just TONS and TONS of socials/Date Functions with the entire Chapter. (We're REALLY into the social aspect of Greek life here at 'State !)
