Totally random question of the night...

Can someone please tell me just why OH WHY!? does diet coke burn your mouth up like crazy when you are having salsa and tortilla chips?

If it bothers you, drink something dairy-based (like a milkshake) when you're eating spicy foods. It puts out the fire.
