TLC New Show "Sorority Girls"
OMG and Okay...So now that I freaked out and am waiting for replies to my old thread on this show I have to post it hear. Here is the original thread about a show called Sorority Girls that aired in the UK
http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...d.php?t=122578
I just did a search on the show and looks like TLC picked it up??? Can they even do that?! I mean I guess they don't say what sorority the girls are in...

I'm a huge fan of the show Greek, but I don't know what to think on this airing in the US next week apparently!!

It's a new sorority, Sigma Gamma.

Is it official? That's so cool! I'm kind excited to watch it all here- mainly because I'm a Greek life addict lol

Official? It's not connected to any NPC sorority (in spite of the 5 American sisters), but I *think* it's an actual group (I'd like to believe it is ). Whether or not they've carried on afterwords is another question though!

It looks to me like TLC is just going to be airing the show that we GCers have seen. It's not a new show or a continuation.

Yep, that's exactly what it is.

ohhhh, well it's still kinda of exciting then. Maybe those who didn't watch it online will have opinions about it from seeing it on TLC. I watched some of it online last year but found the video quality to really suck and sometimes not even work all the way through. I did like what I saw though. I wonder how the five American girls they picked got picked? I'm looking forward to seeing it on the actual TV station, and it will probably be much better quality lol

Not 100% sure, but I think that there was a casting call at various American universities. I almost wonder if there were some organisations who said no to any of their members participating. (That's the one side that I would have liked to see more of, but clearly would not have interested UK viewers).

lol true dat.
I did though see a few episodes of the show (Sorority Girls) online when i could find them and it was really different from MTV"S sorority life to be honest (I have only seen a few episodes online of that as well though). I found MTV's Sorority Life to be really shallow.
While Sorority Girls stuck me as a little bit more genuine I guess. Even though the American Girls did seem pretty scripted- so you never know then really if that was them. I don't know i just liked it better were as Sorority Life I didn't. I'm sure they are similar in some ways though, I think the ideas though behind the shows sound a bit different.
I think over all I'll probs just watch it Tuesday when it airs and see how I feel.. I hate my addiction to Greek Life.

Not. At. All. Everything about the show was contrived and trite. Each of the five "sister" are (active or alumnae) members of NPC organizations. So there is no existing "Sigma Gamma" for anyone to join. When they talk about the way certain girls dress or act, they use trite phrases like "SNSG!!" (So Not Sigma Gamma).
They were really condescending during their "rush" and they later joked about how bad they were going to haze the girls. I'm sorry, but melting ice on your chest and being blindfolded and dumped in the woods in your pajamas? Sorry, 1989 is calling.
It's entertaining, but anything but sincere.

I would say, however, that I believe the pledges developed real friendships among themselves. There were at least a few who I thought were really heartbroken to leave, and money or fame had nothing to do with it.

I think when this show airs in the US things may get a little interesting for some of the American girls who appeared in it. Now they'll be seen where they and their affiliations are easily recognizable. I can't imagine HQs being amused by some of their behavior.
