Informal recruitment question

Hi everyone,

I go to a medium sized school in the northeast, and I missed formal recruitment last semester but I'm still interested in joining a sorority, so I was planning on participating in informal recruitment this semester. I've done quite a bit of research on the sororities at my school and from what I've found it looks like only one is recruiting this semester. Problem is, I have to go home the weekend immediately following recruitment. If the sorority I'm interested in wants to give me a bid, will I need to be at school that weekend? When do I bring up that I won't be here? I don't want to say it right off the bat, because I don't want to assume that they would want me as a part of their sorority, but I don't want to wait until after I get a bid (if I get one at all). Anyone have any advice on what to do?
Thank you!

This is so not a problem. If they want to give you a bid, they will call you. If you don't have a cell phone, I suggest checking your voicemail regularly the weekend you are at home, and promptly responded as necessary.

What she said. I wouldn't go into informal rush saying "Hi! I'm going to be out of town next weekend. Is that going to be a problem when you give me a bid?" (Not that I think from your post that you would.) However, if you go to multiple events, and it comes up in casual conversation like about weekend plans or something, OK. I wouldn't try to work it into the conversation.

If they want you, its not going to matter if you have pre-existing plans to go out of town for a weekend as long as you don't make a habit of not being around. If they don't want you, then it really doesn't matter.
