Okstate Bid Confusion

I got to Oklahoma State and we just brought a new sorority to campus and I started the process, got invited to pref night but could not go due to work, bids go out tomorrow and Im not sure if I am even getting one but I've decided I want to wait to do a Formal recruitment in the fall so I can boost my GPA and also get to see more of the houses. Will I be able to do that or will I have to wait a year. I am VERY confused and I am unable to find the right answer..

I am not sure how good your chances of a bid would be if you didn't go to the pref party. I would ask greek life office but with this being an informal recruitment you might be elegible for fall. I think Okstate is becoming more competitive though on recruitment and not sure how you would fair as a sophomore... keep that in mind should you get a bid before turning it down.

Call the Greek Life office, but I'm thinking if you have not signed a MRABA you'll be fine. That is what typically binds you to a Chapter for a year. Good luck.

Well it wasnt even spring recruitment quite yet, but i am a legacy ChiO and Gamma Pi so I really wanted to check out some other houses, and I also want to get my GPA up some since it could be alot better than what it is. But thank you for the help I did contact them I'm just getting alittle nervous.

Just understand that as you get further along in your college career, the minimum GPA requirement to pledge most NPC groups also goes UP. A higher GPA is required of juniors than a sophomore, and much higher than a freshman.

If you haven't signed a bid card to AOII, you are not bound to us for a year. If you did, you are. If you do get a bid tomorrow, you have a decision to make. Joining a new colony is much different than joining a pre-existing chapter. There is a lot of hard work making a new chapter. You have to design the entire chapter, make new traditions, get to know everyone (and no one knows anyone) all in 8 short weeks. BUT...it's an honor to be the founding sister of a colony. You get to be the one to make those decisions that form the basis of that chapter. You get to step up and lead immediately rather than wait for older sisters to step out of the way. It's not for everyone, but those that can do it have a wonderful experience.

You didn't say this, but just to make clear in case it's lurking in the back of your mind, your legacy status is in NO way a guarantee of a bid later on, especially if your grades aren't stellar and you are a sophomore.

If you are lucky enough to receive a bid from AOII (also not a guarantee and if you didn't speak to them directly about missing the event and why I would bet your chances aren't great) I would really consider accepting it. If my perceptions of sorority life at OK State are accurate, it's very competitive and you are at a distinct disadvantage rushing any time after your freshman year.

Plus the fact that the sororities she mentioned are usually in high demand at OK.State. and probably have plenty of freshmen legacies going thru. OP, think hard about what you are about to do.

Nitpick: if you signed a bid card and do not get a bid, you are not bound to AOII. The only thing that binds you is if you sign the card and get a bid.

Right...sorry. If you signed a bid card and decline a bid if offered. You are bound. I got mixed up while typing. Thanks for catching that DBB. BTW, I don't think it's an issue, though. I'm pretty sure nothing gets signed until a bid is offered.

Outstanding grades and campus activities are a must for the two OK State legacy sororities you mentioned. PNMs consider both of those chapters to be highly desirable.

The system is great at OK State, with all of the chapters having much to offer and much to give. I can't imagine how exciting being a member of a colony would be. I hope that all of the sororities are welcoming AOPi with open arms.
