Let the dead horse rest!
I know it will probably irritate some people that I am bringing this up, but so be it.
Lately there has been a rash of OOOOOOOLD posts being brought back up and I don't think people are looking at the dates. If you are replying to someone's specific question about your philanthropy or something that never got answered, fine....but if it's a thread with 10 pages worth of posts that was started in 1999, think about whether you really have anything new to contribute to that discussion (hint: read the whole thread before posting) or if it's something that really needs to be revisited.
If this offends you, sorry, but you were probably one of the ones that did it .

here's a thought: now why on earth would the good keepers of this fine site archive the older posts on the site? Maybe for searching, maybe for purusing, maybe for, wait, this may be hard to comprehend, POSTING TO.
If ppl feel the need to post..then by word, they should do it!

I agree if it weren't for old posts........ than what would be the reason for doing searches?

I agree, the old posts depending on what they are are very infomrative and really, it wouldn't be a message board without these messages. Also there are new people almost everyday on Greekchat and I am sure they too would like to see some of the old posts. It's a message board with a purpose.

I have a split opinion od "old messages" because, that's what they are, OLD. On one hand a specific question like 33girl mentioned on philanthropy does deserve a search. On the flip side, even though a thread like "What's your roommate like" may have been discussed a year ago & maybe it's 3 pages long, but there are so many new people, there are bound to be new opinions. If someone has real problems with their living arrangements then tell them, "You may find some good advice in this old thread" I bet they would search for it because it addresses their particular concern. I would rather see a NEW thread with FRESH comments from the currently active posters. A comment made by AXohmy or Alphasiglana will have more meaning to me than a post by, SUheretodaygonetomorrow.

I have noticed though when a new/fresh thread is posted that may have been covered a year ago (but I wasn't here a year ago) -someone pops in a says you may want to do a search-so then a search is done and yes it is there and it is an old thread-are we suppose to not bring it back up???? I am confused b/c it is either bring upthe old thread or make a new one-I personally like new ones b/c there are some people that are no longer here and new posters that were not present when a particualr thread was born a year ago. However, there are some GChatters that do not want a new thread on a subject that has already been dicussed but yet they don't want the old one re-opened. So what are we suppose to do???????? Can't win.

Exactly......when I read this thread last night I was like hmmmm. So let me get this straight. We aren't liked for bringing up old threads. Yet if we start a new one that has been covered already, people are told to do a search. Much like politics, can't impress everyone I guess.

I'm not sure if everyone is willfully missing my point, but I"ll try to make a little clearer what I was trying to say.
"Do a search" became a popular phrase around these here parts when people kept asking the same questions over and over. Things like - what is COB - what is intake - etc etc etc. I'm guessing lots of people searched the threads, found their answer to their question and moved on.
What I'm addressing is things like the "elite sororities" thread being brought back up. (there are others, but that's the first one that comes to mind) The thing is longer than War and Frigging Peace already and people just keep saying the same things over and over again. That's a big reason a lot of the threads dealing with racial issues get locked - people just go around and around and no one changes their opinion.
Sorry if I am cranky, but this has NOT been a good day.

Some threads remind me of a song I remember from summer camp:
This is the song that never ends, it will go on and on, my friends. Some people started singing and did not not know what it was, but they keep on singing it only just because this is the song that never ends, it will go on......
I think what my fellow Rolling Rock fan is trying to say is that the questions in some threads (i.e. "What are the elite sororities") will NEVER be answered to everyone's satisfaction. It's just people voicing opinions (sometimes the same ones) over and over again ad naseum. There will never be a resolution to the question because all of the "good" answers (They're ALL elite, depends on the chapter, etc.) have been posted already. I mean, The Good Lord Himself could come down and write what the elite sororities are and yet someone would write back disagreeing.
I think it is different, however, with posts regarding rush experiences or top ten whatever or road rage stories because people all have different stories to contribute and you're not reading the same thing over and over.
